I think what the OP was meaning is that the "Squash" has an area attack, instead of a line attack: it has the ability to capture pieces as far as two Queen-ward squares away or capture like the Knight. This entire box area covers 25 squares.

In fact, I invented two pieces very similar to it: The "High-Priestess" and the "Telepath". They are the promoted pieces in my chess variant, Magician's Deathmatch. They two can capture 2-squares Queen-wards or capture like the Knight; creatinging a 5x5 area attack box. (Please check out the link for visual diagrams.)
