What do you think about a chess variant where pawns promote to a queen/nightrider superpiece that not only combines the powers of the queen and knight, but also allows the piece to replacate the knight's movement in any direction as shown:

I think this is a romantic idea - the idea that a pawn, the weakest piece on the board by far, holds by far the greatest potential of all the pieces. It would also make for some interesting endgames (as well as completely negate the need for underpromotion).

Would make virtually no difference. A Queen is already strong enough. When you promote, you win.
