Who likes seeing experienced players beat up on inexperienced players - how does that help grow the game?
It's not about chess, it's about viewer count.
Streamers with a lot of viewers are ideal from chess.com's perspective. It doesn't matter if they don't know about en passant or stalemate.
Can you all do a better job of getting more even experienced players for Pogchamps 4? You all need to decide if this is a tournament for intermediate players or beginner players. The whole the two week period has been so unbalanced. You all clearly have a set of players that are vastly more experienced than the rest. It is very clear people like Sardoche, Ludwig, and Rainn should not be playing against people like Michelle, Myth, and Code Miko. Just put them in separate brackets from the start. Who likes seeing experienced players beat up on inexperienced players - how does that help grow the game? What do you see as a new player, come and play chess and get smoked by people who have been playing for years longer than you. Cool.
I'm watching the second game of the consolation finals and this is just ridiculous. You have one girl who learned the game from scratch and another with thousands of games... in the consolation bracket... common man, wtf. This pr stunt is just so poorly cobbled together, you all are going to run the chess boom into the ground if you do it like this again.
You all keep saying the more experienced player deserve to win because they played better, well of course they played better, they have tens or hundreds times the experience of their opponents. How does that make for an interesting or compelling tournament? You put people of hugely different experience in the same pool and then unsurprisingly the vastly more experienced players win every time. How is that fair? You all picked these people and put them all in the tournament together when there are such huge massive advantage differences between them. You might as well have picked the outcome from the start.
