Hi! My name’s Doni, and I have a leadership position at my school’s chess club. We have meetings every other week, lasting about 70 mins give or take. Me and my other friends advertised and had posters up for people to join, but it had little effectiveness. In fact, we have a bad nickname for ourselves by the name of “Sophomore Boys Club” (yikes 😬)
My plan for this 2024-2025 school year is to get a school county-wide (School1 is the original host, School2, School3, School4) competition. Rules would be based on college chess, and each year a different school would get a chance at hosting the competition, for 80% of ticket profits being given to the host school and 20% to School1 for maintenance and policy upkeep.
I also plan on making a new “Why us?” Video that advertises chess club in a satirical way, made before school starts and posters up on the first day.
What other suggestions should I put into improving member turnout, retention, and making chess club better than ever?
