Depends on increment. 10 minute no increment should be Blitz, but with an increment it can be Rapid. Not sure if all increments are Rapid or only above 5 or something, but that would be the reason.

I haven't played a 10 minute game in a while and don't wish to try right now, so I can't confirm, but I'd be very surprised if it had changed (especially without a very obvious announcement somewhere!)

I think it has been changed recently. I am new on Chess.com (couple of weeks) but noticed that the 10min games (that were the 'standard option' in the app when you directly went to hit 'play') have changed from blitz to rapid... (even though there is no increment...)
I noticed it's a bug... While sending 10 mins challenge my rating is 1440
When I see the game it considers 1880

In the morning I played a 10m game - it counted towards my blitz rating. Another 10m game just now - rapid.
I too have this issue since this morning. I play "rapid" only with my gf who is a total beginner, so I have an unrealistically high score there. Now when I try to play "blitz" - as I usually do - I am matched with players that are much stronger than me, and the score is counted in my "rapid" rating.
Sometimes you are matched to people who just joined chess.com, and start with a rating that does not reflect their actual skills. I guess this might happen more often on "blitz" if that is the default game when you log in. The problem now is that people who want to play "blitz" are suddenly forced to play "rapid".

Hi, i am experimenting the same bug (?) here. When i start a match in blitz mode, my statistic in rapid mode is modified. Experimented since the reboot of server this morning (french time)
I'm seeing the same thing on my desktop and having checked my opponent's profiles it's showing as a rapid game there as well. And they've generally only ever played blitz from the looks of it. It's also showing my blitz rating next to my name but it;s my rapid rating that's being changed.

We play 30-minutes "rapid" and never went out of time ;-) There might be more logical solutions, but it doesn't matter because apart from that I play *only* blitz. That's why the current situation (bug?) is messing me up.

OK, if it's a widespread problem we should probably just wait a bit and it will be fixed.
I can confirm, same thing happened to me my last 2 games.

That would mean that the existing "blitz" ratings have become obsolete. I doubt this would happen without an announcement. Also, if you read back in this thread you'll see that the problem has already occurred in the past.
