Thanks. Those poor 2000+ players forced to play 20 really dull games in round 1! But it does mean a reasonable chance of getting to play a titled player for us regular players... does chess.com make it possible to query this stuff in more detail? e.g. how many titled players are in the tournament?

If someone is ahead of you in the group, that would be it. Can you provide a link to the standings page?

1 player advances from the group of 12 -not 22
