A Chess Oscar: Why We Should Not Give Participation Awards

Nikiprit recently started the idea of Chess Oscars. Needless to say, the award means nothing and requires nothing of the possessor, and I think it is a horrible idea in general. 

Basically, a so-called Chess Oscar is a participation award. It makes people proud of themselves for doing nothing, and believe it or not, some people actually have used this award to try to get some crededentials! 

The idea of boosting someone's self-esteem seems to be very popular here on chess.com. Really, there's not a grain of truth in telling people that they are completely amazing and deserve a Chess Oscar. Get real. 

I just wanted to vent my thoughts about this horrible idea, and so people know that I do not agree with the whole "Chess Oscar" thingy. It is worth nothing, except perhaps for the fact that it got my attention. If I get one, I will cry in shame.

Well, all I have to say is:

I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY CHESS OSCAR!!

( I do not know if I am crazy and need to see a shrink, but I am REALLY happy with my Chess OScar ).

I was trying to salvage the situation by having them make me an Oscar so it would at least be a bit reputable.

They are comparing apples and oranges. Two completely different characters, one of them have won many games undeservedly, the other one have lost many game he should have won. They were both good blitz players, winning every once in a while on time obviously, one of them more often than not, but that's about it.
