A day in the life of a moderator

ah, ok, thanks happy.png

That could have several explanations:

1. Flaky internet connection on your end

2. Internet glitches between you and the server

3. Problem with your computer

4. Server bug

I know the development team has put a lot of effort into connectivity issues recently.

MGleason

That could rule out #1, but not necessarily.  Youtube can load the parts of the video that haven't played yet, so if your connection briefly cuts out, it just keeps playing what it's already loaded until the connection is reestablished.

In live chess, that's obviously not possible.  You can't load moves that haven't played yet.

Additionally, Youtube can have servers mirrored around the world to let you connect to a server reasonably close to you.  For chess, you have to be talking to the same server as your opponent, so that can't be done as conveniently.  So glitches between you and the server are more likely.

MGleason

Possibly.  I don't have access to the code, so there's very little I can do with technical issues.

One thing I can suggest is to go into your live chess settings (see the orange arrow in the screenshot) and go to the last tab (the yellow arrow), and play around with the settings in there, and see if that helps anything.

If all else fails, if you contact support, they may have some ideas.  They obviously can't do this in every case, but I've heard of one instance where a staff member actually went to someone's house to investigate their connectivity problems.

"We have a daily quota system for bans and mutes" Is that true? I got a mobile phone scammer for you, MGleason.

That part is definitely not true.

But does Chess.com make money from mutes and bans?

No, that was a joke too.

There is talk of splitting the Off Topic forum into a forum for meaningful off-topic discussion and an insane asylum.

I heard a rumour once that some players were charged to come back from a ban.

Ahhhhh........ I like THAT fomula.  Off-topic 1  and off-topic 2. Let staff decide where to park it depending on which direction the thread is going.....very interesting.  That seems to be the template of OD also. That group has split about 5 times now. I should of bought stock in that group. frustrated.png  Off-topic 2 could be used as a training ground for wanna-be-mods. How would they clean THIS up?                                                                                                                                                                     null                                                                                                                                                                                                                           OR  THIS.?                                                                                                           null

An excellent idea!

YouAreHaveStupid

Is there any way of knowing which is the chess.com thread that has the most comments?

There actually is a way: enter in my profile, then on my activity click "Get trophies by commenting! (forum race game)" its the most commented of chess.com history.

BronsteinPawn

Chess.com ruined white hints by highlighting the neue comment when you load the page, sorry man.

I hope the server will be able to handle the the heavy traffic in the insane asylum!

I hope they do make that change.  Its long overdue.  There should be a "childrens" table available.
