There is much junk in the forums.  But it advertises itself.  So just ignore the silly threads and the inane posters.

The thing is, I'm fairly new to chess, deciding to take it up at the late age of 40. I've had several different hobbies over the years, all with there speciality sites and forums. However the amateur chess community seems to be a lot less friendlier. Constantly bickering in the forums.

Dear Chess.com Members

One of the major issues we face in our community is the excessive elitism and trolling we have on our forums. It is unfortunate that someone can post a topic asking for genuine advice and guidance, yet the majority of reply's seem to just insult their rating or their grammar.

The impression  chess players have among the general population is one of dedication, artistry and intellect. i wonder how many of them would react if they stumbled on our forums!. Sadly, our forums  are filled with personalities who are simply trying to seek attention , and it's unfortunate that members with genuine questions, who are trying to improve regardless of their skill level, get subjected to constant elitism  and negativity.

So can i ask that if a member of our community asks for help or guidance, can you give it without prejudice.

Easily solvable.  Ignore them.  Dont respond.  Dont react.  Once the audience is gone, there is no one to perform for.

If someone asks a question, answer it.  After that, ignore the ignorant, and help the OP if it is needed.  When the post derails into the eventual train wreck, let it go and move on.  You did your part.

Ironic.

OP, just ignore the trolls. Learn to be not so sensitive. Even in religious communities, altruistic organizations, there are trollS.

Trolling is sooooooooooooo good.

You should try.

I will consider to invite you to our great and odd TROLLU, chess.com Troll University, if I notice you are a good troll apprentice.

Whatever you do, don't read what you write BEFORE you post it!!!!

madhacker

Letting a bunch of internet-anonymous people loose on the forums and politely asking them not to troll, is about on a par with letting a bunch of ravenous lions loose from their cage and politely asking them not to eat you.

Many here have nothing to say and, alas, no one to whom to say it.

Read some more chess books.

Write and essay about this place.  Polish it.  Then paste it here......

Good luck.
