Abused in Online chess

Sort:
kosmeg

I was playing a girl from Turkey in Online chess and she suddenly resigned and left abusive messages speaking really badly for me and my country.I reported her in Chess.com and they only warned her! You know she had as a status "Armenian lies are the genocide of the truth" ! I mean for gods sake she is here to make abusive comments for other countries! She said F....your country! and she called me a bast..... What else do they want to ban her??? Chess.com community wake up! Such people don't have a place here!

You can't ignore these things sabra! those mean people will keep on doing it, not only to you, but to others! Serious action should be taken about this!

The misspelling aside, I still don't understand what you are trying to say on this topic.

In both Sabra and Kosmeg's case I fail to understand how those actions are not enough to be banned. I agree with the champ on this one.

Should someone be banned for calling me a redneck?!  What about a barefoot hick or country bumpkin ?  I think people need thicker skin myself.

kublitz44

makes me feel sorry for them people. to go thru life carrying all that anger around must be miserable.

There is a large difference between your examples and the ones being presented. I don't think anyone is advocating the banning of all name callers, but there are varying levels of name calling.

Quite right. People who abuse others here should be banned without question. There's no excuse whatsoever for such behaviour. Rude people shouldn't have a place here. If they aren't banned they're no doubt going to continue their abuse, so hopefully Chess.com will take more serious action against such people soon...

I see... you are one of those who believe only certain groups should enjoy such protection ? I have to disagree completely. Either you cannot say anything offensive to anyone or anything goes.... I dont see any other way myself. Unlike you, I believe we are all equal and should enjoy the same protections, if any at all. I dont like being called names either but I dont want anyone banned for calling me a name, no matter how offensive.

Right.  I also don't see the difference between "dirty Jew" and "inbred redneck".  Yet...should people who are so insulting and unpleasant necessarily be allowed to run around and harass others so freely on a website that aims at creating a friendly relaxed chess community?

There is a Macedionian guy injuring me by "You are piece of shit! modern greek moron! " "you are mixture from slavs, turks, egyptians, italians, vlavs, gypsys, bulgars and 10000 other tribes, you idiot!" . I'm not even Greek. I didn't report him though. Maybe a Greek person should go visit his profile that provides much hate towards the Greek and report him if he feels attacked, which I believe he will.

When we warn players, we do keep track of that, and we do ban repeat offenders. But, we've put in place some tools to help everyone manage their own experience on the site, you can read about those here: http://support.chess.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=709

I don't understand Reb, why don't you report them ? Any kind of name calling is just not on  and they shoudn't get away with this. How else are they gonna learn that we and chess.com do not tolerate this kind of behaviour on this website.

Maybe it is better to simply file an abuse report instead of making a flamebait post like this. With everyone quoting various racist remarks this thread is bound to lead to abuse on larger scale anytime soon.

Doctorjosephthomas

It is helpful to have thicker skin, but we shouldn't need it.  All abusive players should be banned.

doric1

yes all abusive players should be banned

You know I didn't want to make this post. I waited for the response of chess.com help and support and when I recieved it and saw that she got out only with a warning I thought that chess.com's community would support my belief that she has no place in our community. You see if I wanted I could name her but I don't want to be specific. I'm concerned in this kind of thing as a whole. I believe she should be banned not because I'm not able to ignore her, I want her to be banned because she had no reason for saying that. If she had a reason I'm willing to hear it...

I think people should be encouraged to be friendly, or at least respectful, in their attitude and comments towards other members and opponents.  People who repeatedly engage in offensive behavior should be removed from the site -- as the most effective way to provide that encouragement of civil and decent behavior.  Otherwise, the effect is to encourage bad behavior.  All that is necessary for such offensive behavior to increase is that its occurrence be met with indifference and inaction.  I would strongly encourage the staff here to regard nasty name-calling as being at least as blameworthy as cheating.

If someone is a abusive get rid of them! Simples!

The best way for bad or rascist comments is to ban them for 1 week and then give them a final warning.
