i guess, i had to clarify...  that makes me sad.

awww, that makes me feel bad.  But c'mon...we've all run into our share of Fox News loving Americans who really think the US is the only "good" God has ordained to battle the Axis of Evil, no?  :)

Anyway, I don't think super turk girl posted in the forum initially...from what I understand...it was in private chats that she lambasted her opponents with "f--- your country" and the stuff about Armenian lies being the genocide of truth...which is why it's so funny...as neither of the two opponents who have come forward are Armenian.  One Greek and the other British??

I hold nothing against you because you are turkish/live in turkey. I hold it against you because you are abusive for no reason. Sort yourself out turk girl.

I have to thank RainbowRising as he's really expressing my thoughts, but you know dude, don't really argue with her. You don't have to do so. She will never agree with you no matter what.

I believe that chess.com said something about warnings...If this has been already done with RainbowRising I believe this is at least the second time it happens... she wasn't abusive just once...

You know greek-turkish relations are really not the best. Greece has been under turkey from 1453 to 1821 when the greek revolution began. Many greek people hate turkish people and the other way round. This is something totally wrong to me as we can't blame each other for what our ancestors did. Despite this fact even if she wants to argue about that she shouldn't do it here. Believe me she has something with greece it's not only armenia...

Hey everyone! Those who didn't believe me can check out the notes in my profile... She did it again... I guess warnings don't do much... I'm not really asking for her ban anymore. I demand it.

The real problem is the very real propaganda that ALL people grow up with in their lives ! There are NO exceptions ! Its truly a rare individual that can resist and break their own brainwashing ! ALL countries do this !

I totally agree with that. As I said I don't have anything against Turkey.

Me personally.  I think people are entlted to there opionions.  If they want to cuss you out and say dirty things to you let them.  Its there right to free speech.  On the other hand the smart thing to do is block these people and ignore them.  I know that sounds stupid but trust me it works.  Also, you also have a choice to be here so if you cant take the heat or a few insults the mayve this isnt the place for you.  I think reporting people is pointless because half the time they'll just get off with some kind of warning.

NO. That is NOT what right to free speech is. By your grounds, racism, sexism etc are all allowed (in a verbal sense) and that is not the case. Right to free speech is being able to critise constructly, not abuse and insult.

RainbowRising: In the USA people can get a permit and are allowed to use abusive and insulting language.  Sometime people even pay money to hear such language in a comedy club! or a movie.

Truth is, certain "hate" speech is protected as well, as demonstrated by legal assembly and marches of groups such as Neo Nazis and KKK.  So legally, the reality is that people are allowed be hateful and express it.  They are not allowed to commit behiaviours that are hateful or hurtful as a result of such speech, but the speech itself, is protected.

This is the way it is, in the USA, despite our feelings about it.  And, since the USA "discovered" this concept/paradigm and created the document to guartantee these rights and the website I think is based in USA, then I subscribe to USA laws in this matter, on this issue. If others are applicable as well, I am interested in what they are.

I'm not at all knowledgeable on politics etc. But I presume that US law also allows a privately run company to enforce rules about what people can and can't say?! If not then chess.com has broken US law many times.. :)

Whoa -- let's fix the issues here first, then move on to the world.

Absolutely correct.

It is called their Terms of Service contract and it is legal and enforceable.

They may also choose when and if they apply their own measure of action when it is breached.  They are allowed to be inconsistant in their measures as well: meaning they can ban one person for a specific act and decide to only suspend another for the same act.

So long as they do nothing criminal nor do they knowingly allow criminal activity, they can ban me for posting this very post, if that were their desire.

Indeed, even the "law" operates in much the same manner, unequally. This is why there is so little respect, even contempt in many cases, for the "law". My dad was a small town cop for more than 20 years and we used to go round and round bout this ....... Smile

No, they wont ban you! We need someone with legal knowledge here! Cool

erik

the abuser has been banned. makes me sick that there are people out there so full of hate. shame on her and whoever is responsible for her indoctrination.

people make mistakes. countries make mistakes. the entire world has made mistakes. but hating an individual that you do not know simply based on their race, nationality, religion, or sports team preference is insane.

sorry to all who were offended.

i didn't mean to bother anybody...  although sometimes the bother is the best part.

i thought it would be clear when i pointed out that the brits were the only ones the USA has ever wronged.  get it, the brits?  yeah so.  at least richie_and_oprah got it.

i'll get back to playing now.

This horde mentality is starting to worry me a little bit.  Start a thread, get what you want?

clms_chess

I read the "note" and absolutely agree on her banning. Anyone... and I mean anyone who repeatedly states such high levels of abuse (profanity laden tyrade) has no place here. No one can tell me that THAT out burst was on the same level as... "red neck". I mean... come on!

Erik... great job by you and your staff!

I believe I get your point, but you know... she was really abusive...you saw that even after the warning she continued the same way... Despite all these, nice one.

Spiffe

Ha, when I first read this, I was surprised that it didn't involve someone attacking Americans.  I'm just used to that always being the case, and I forget that people elsewhere hate each other too.

The irony is, that's exactly the kind of American self-centeredness that tends to cheese people off.  Usually I think of myself as pretty diversity-aware, but I missed the boat here!  I got my lesson for the day. Smile

Well, had "she" not nibbled at the bait, she would not have planted the seeds of her own ex-commincation so close to the information super highway as to be flattened by the first truck that crossed into the shoulder.

But yes, in gereral, I undertsand your point and think it is a deep and wise one, and one in which I fully agree.

Kernicterus

kosmeg.  I don't think any of this is your fault.  :)  She was definitely behaving inappropriately.  I guess I'd prefer action taken more discreetly and consistently - not as a result of what could appear to be a witch hunt.

Agreed, just ignore these people...
