Account closed but still playing?

I played a game vs another user some days ago and went to check his/her profile after the game. It then said on their profile the account had been closed but they were still playing another game, and have continued to do so in the following days while their profile still appear as closed. Does anyone know why? Is it some sort of trial where chess.com closes the account but awaits an appeal from the user and thus a final decision?

No. It usually happens when someone has multi-day daily games open that haven't timed out yet.

They aren't automatically timed out when someone closes their account.

Why? I do not know.

They have been playing rapid and blitz and have no ongoing games, so doesn't explain this case. But thanks anyway.

Well, some people put that "Account closed" on their profile when the account isn't really closed.

No one in your recent archived games has the closed icon the site uses for closed accounts.

It doesn't have a red circle next to his profile in the game archive, but when I go into his profile it says the account has been closed for violation of fair play.

Then that isn't really a closed account and they set their status to that.
