Anand vs Carlsen: World Championship match thread

How did Magnus Carlsen manage to beat former World Champion Vishy Anand? Could Anand have possibly retained his title if 24 games would have been played?
Yes, just as he could have retained his title if castling was forbidden from now on in WCC. Maybe, but that's idle speculation.
Now for my own idle pronostic : the result of the 12 (sorry, 10) games match is pretty conclusive, why would it have been different in 24 ? (yes, I know, psychological advantage and all that stuff, blah blah).

On the question how he did manage to beat Anand I think the answer is by being the much better player of the two, as has been the case for several years now.
On the question what would have happened if they had played another 14 games, Carlsen had a slow start but won three of the last six games, and had a winning position in a fourth. It is difficult to see how adding another 14 games to those played would have had any other effect than that it would have been more of the same, and finished around game 18-19 at 6-0 or 7-0 in wins.

The score would've ended up 12.5 - 6.5 (maybe Vishy would've got 7.5) or so. With Magnus still winning by about the same % score.

wow so cool that we have a thread about the world championship!
when does it start by the way?
I hope anand wins!
It starts after Aronian or Kramnik wins the Candidates, which starts in a little over a month. Think next winter.

I really don't know if you are right about who will challenge Magnus but I believe it will indeed be Kramnik. Hard to call this one with all the great players vying for the opportunity to be WC. Kramnik deserves the match but don't count Anand out yet for a re-match.

and not aronian??

Perhaps, but the fact is that no one knows who will be the challenger. As far as we know at this time it could be a dark horse player ... correct?

He would, in my opinion, be the player with the best chance to beat Magnus Carlsen. Kramnik was the first undisputed World Champion {2006} since 1993. Kramnik, we must not forget, actually beat Garry Kasparov in 2000 although at that time FIDE did not acknowledge him as WC due to the schism in the chess world.

I both hope and know that the next challenger will be Kramnik or Aronian. Why hope this? Because, these two are my favorite players. How do I know? They are the strongest contenders and both have been playing well.
Several other players are possibilities, including Anand. Nonetheless, I would not bet against Aronian or Kramnik. If I were your bookie, I would give you attractive odds for any other choice. If your dark horse wins, you make a killing!
lets keep this thread alive!....no?
