Average rating decreasing

Hello, I have noticed that the average rating given here https://www.chess.com/leaderboard/live/rapid has decreased a lot the last few years. I remember about two years ago the average rating was around 820. Now it is 680. In old forum posts of 10 years ago it seemed to be about 1200. I guess the number of casual players has greately increased, even if only active players are taken into account. It shows how much chess has become popular in the last few years, but I don't know where this trend is going. Are we going to have 400 as an average one day ?

It depends in my opinion on how many new chess coaches there will be. While some of these casual players will remain casual, some of the accounts are potentially children or people looking for a better career in the game, and so the more accounts created, the more people looking to improve, and the chess coaches will soon be overloaded with "work".

When the number of new accounts created per day will stop growing, this mass of new players will eventually shift to higher level or stop playing, then the average rating will increase. But I don't see it coming as january was the month with the highest number of players ever reached.

I like it! My 941 rating is 76 percentile, so I can say I’m better than 3/4 of the players here. A little ego boost, but I have to remember I’m not even in the world of truly good serious players.
