Bad Losers on Chess.com

I've played over 1500 games on this site in the last two years and never been trolled or mocked in the game chat. As for childishness and pettiness of people who can't take defeat and abandon or time out the game, yes had those in abundance. I just smile when that happens because at the end of the day I'm the winner and they're the loser. Let them drown in their spite. And remember, a huge percentage of members on here are indeed children.

Hi Rick

Welcome to the site, I've been here about three years and all this sounds common to me.
Personally as soon as chat gets weird I disable chat straight away, if its been bad I'll report at the end of the game.

As for someone stalling in a lost position - if there is only one possible move like the queen you mentioned earlier then pre-move is a great way to tackle that - practice in a friendly game. You only get one candidate move in live chess so as long as you're certain it's a great option for those who stall for ages then randomly move at the last second hoping you've gone away. You can nip off to make a cup of tea safe in the knowledge that when you come back you've won either way happy.png

I wish I had your charisma I get trolled all the time grin.png
Maybe I should stop opening with the bong cloud happy.png

I've done this by accident a few times. I rush to resign and then close the tab, but the resignation doesn't have time to register. My apologies to everyone affected, it hasn't been on purpose. Luckily there's the timer so nobody has to wait the clock out, and it's indeed worse when the opponent rage stalls and runs their clock out on purpose. I mean, I signed up for the game with the specified time controls, it is their time and they can do what they want with it, but sitting there just to tick someone off is kinda juvenile and bad sportsmanship overall.

Just my five cents. Cheers and good luck on the board.

i have succumbed to being a bad player once in a while usually after four or five losses in a row and late at night waiting for meds to kick in before bed - i am not young rather old guy but as with this attitude i  become childish -- 2 year old  tamper fit stuff -- after that fifth lose in a row against a lesser ranked player and  for me lesser means 100 so i understand where that comes from --- and i apologize-  not resigning but just leaving the game and let the other player's hang there well that's not  forgivable - after so many of those  games - the powers at be should make you have a time out - like when you use a slightly bad word in chat  and get banned for a day or so

Yes, it happens to me too, but the amount of it happening becomes less when I go up. I remember it happening to me most at about the 1000 level, and it became less and less from there.

No, it will not improve

Sorry this happened to you! I know andunderstand the experience, especially where it involves trolling and mocking. I never understand why they act like this considering it's only a game.

Thanks HippyHeart I appreciate the kind words. I've not had any abuse yet, which is surprising giving how much there legitimately is to mock me in my rubbish game skills! grin.png

Yeah I think this is good advice, thanks. They only hurt themselves unless you let it get to you... happy.png

Thans for the kind words and the clever tip OpenSquirrel. I have not ever experienced any weirdness in chat. In fact TBH rarely does anyone chat to me. Maybe it's the beard grin.png

I appreciate your honesty Grrdy, and yes if deliberate (and I can tell that it is) then it is extrmely juvenile. But as others have said there really are a lot of literal juvenile shere, so we have to make allowances (I guess) grin.png

Whats a point of paying chess.com when its impossible to play. Maximum player reached 2 days already. I dont want 2 ply vs computer.

Try that new cat-bot M3GAN, she's brilliant. Her smack talk is something else, I wanna be like her when I grow up 😂😂

Once I messaged a player who'd stopped playing with a long time remaining. He apologized, said he was at work and when his game was lost, stopped playing and went to a meeting.
At least he apologized. No harm done.

Anything worse, and I report them. Repeated draw offers (from low-rated players)? You get one warning, and if it persists, I report you. Abusive language? Yup. You're reported.
I don't know if anything ever comes of my reports; I figure if there are enough complaints about a player, chesscom will take action.

Yea, and then they come back and start over even worse than before because they got banned. It's a tough situation for sportsmen like yourself. Maybe they'll eventually get tired of it if you keep reporting them. You're helping them mature.

Re: children - online sites such as this one are not supposed to have members under 13, right? So, if you suspect someone is under that age, I suppose you can always report the possibility and Chess.com can check that out. Re: abandonment - I had that happen, and I asked support, and it turns out the guy lost his connection and couldn't get it back in time. So, sometimes someone may not be being rude. Mostly, though, rudeness happens in online gaming, alas, that's been true for a long time.

I cannot write in comment the stories I've seen... but yeah. Some sore losers.

I agree in any one particular isolated incident it "could" have been either a genuine mistake or a genuine loss of connectivity. Taken as a pattern however there is no possible mistaking of it - they're bad losers who are deliberately abondoning the game just after I have made a game winning move. grin.png
