Maybe he was high on something... *shrugs*

Puchiko

I remember my greeter game. I timed out after a few moves.

New members can be a difficult sort. But greeters are an awesome contribution to the community, so thanks for being one! *supportive hug*

ivandh

Elubas

Possibly he meant: "go away"

Obviously under the influence of the planets or...?

Did he resign in a few moves or you terminated the game?

I won by chek mate in 4 moves

Dakota_Clark

What was his flag? Perhaps his first language wasn't english. Atleast I hope so.

I understand though, it's difficult sometimes when a site's demographic is moderately young, or rather just immature/ignorant for that matter.

Dakota_Clark

Okay, now you've equally confused me Paul. And how do you know that the player was canadian?

Little-Ninja

I gave up being a greeter because no one seem to want to play me. I think anyone higher then the 1600+ rating here would have that issue and even more so if ur over 2000+ i think.

He was from Australia. D.O.B 1996.

TheOldReb

My flag here is Portugal's flag though I am American . I use Portugal's flag because thats where I currently reside.

chesspro8

you propably didn't know he had to press submit move...

philtheforce

I am a greeter but I have limited my greeting games to 5 as i play tournament games and other rated games ..... quite a few of my opponents in greeter games have timed out ....

philtheforce

being a greeter is fun too though as you could potentially make more friends on the site and help and support those new to the site

Nakomaton

I'm pretty much in the same situation as philtheforce, except now I've lowered the limit now to 3 welcome games.  It's a bit disappointing that most players time out, though it's expected since there are many out there who don't know the concept of correspondence chess like here on Chess.com, I didn't understand when I first joined.  But when someone really does play, it's pretty fun, and so far both welcome games that I've completed without a timeout I've actually lost.  Seems that those who are better at chess are more likely to understand and be active on the site.

philtheforce

Yes a lot of the new people don't tend to be that active but perhaps cos its unrated they dont take much notice ... or they just aren't familiar with correspondence. I played on other correspondence sites before this one so knew what they were about

I don't agree with this.  The fella who welcomed me to this site, pdmura, was rated around 1900, which is considerably stronger than me, but it was a fun game, and he answered all my questions, and he was very friendly.  It was a great introduction to a fine website.  Unfortunately, he forced my resignation after a mere fourteen moves.

philtheforce

That's good to hear that your greeter was friendly and helped ... i try and say hi to all knew people who i play against as a greeter and write on their notes offering to anwser any questions about the site they may have

Here is where I am at times not clear expressing myself in another language than my native one.

Devout_Monk in your post #9, your suggested that perhaps his native language was not English. And I merely wanted to agree with you by saying that I was Canadian and French and that somtimes I do not render or write my thoughts clearly.

I do not know the nationality or language of the person and just wanted to support your viewpoint.

 He is from Australia.

philtheforce

ok
