Best Time Control For Playing Viewers?

I tried live streaming chess years ago, but I switched to making educational chess YouTube videos instead. I still have several upcoming video ideas, but I may also want to play viewers live and make educational video(s) out of it through the mid-game commentary. Longer games are more instructional, but many viewers on YouTube don't want to invest so long into a single video.

If I make a video in the upcoming weeks (or multiple videos), then what time control would you like to see and what rating range would you prefer my opponent(s) to be? I may mix it up for learning purposes and variety, but what's the ideal for most of my audience?

Time control:

A) Blitz

B) 10 min Rapid

C) Longer like 15+10, or 20 minutes etc.

Rating range preferred to watch me play against with live commentary for learning:

A) Under 1200: It's important to share advanced concepts apply to games of all levels

B) 1200 to 1600: Intermediate level in rating where middlegames tend to feel confusing

C) 1600-2000: More advanced level in rating where positional ideas begin to take over

D) 2000+ where it's going to be a real battle while I keep the atmosphere still on teaching/learning

In the meantime, here's my Free Coaching Playlist (which is not live)

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTXwNMbhsy4tfNvpDrJfmeXbmrzpAt48K

and one Untitled Tuesday live video where I gave commentary afterwards via a voice over of my thought-process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlO3fnHUIA8

Thanks for your feedback everyone

Time control B. Rating B (or C) Sounds good tho, I think you can make all options educational!

Hi Seto! 20 minutes minimum for time. If folks can't sit through 20 then they should be on meds. Rating range? A) Under 1200. I say that because *I* am in that range, lol but also because that is the range that needs the most direction and that usually gets far less help or direction.

You've ALWAYS helped us (and me). I cannot thank you enough. I am excited about everything you put out. Thank you so much for giving back to the chess community!! Peace!

Blitz is not good for learning and improvement in generell. I think you should choose 10 Minutes for 1200 - 1600 and slower time controls for 1600 - 2000+ for your videos.

Rapid 15|10. But I hear you about many youtube viewers not wanting it. I struggle with that fact in my own youtube videos.

B. 10/0 and

C. 1600+

Any rapid tc is fine. Also it would be good if you recapped OTB games

Your own! Getting your insight into what you were thinking at the time is interesting

If it's for instructive purposes, I think 25+10 would be good.

Thanks for the idea. I may create more videos like this in the future. I've analyzed my own OTB games in some chess videos before, but it's just in the analysis board as if it was a regular chess.com game; the only difference being that I share it was an OTB game of mine.

For example, this was from an OTB game of mine:

C then B, mostly because if you play the right opponents that know an opening it would be easier to teach what to do in middle games for properly played openings given the set up which i feel is too little talked about which is why games go out of whack so quickly because it's mostly tactics being taught and not how to attack with different setups which would be I feel more universally helpful because what good is the opening if you can't play it right but also if you don't know an opening you can do your own thing while still trying to set up with a plan rather than setting up just to set up which most ratings could use and if you do what gotham chess does and gives explanations for multiple ratings using the single match then intermediate would be best because you will be more likely to show actual plans for actual openings which would help a lot especially because lower rated players don't have to get as much of the specifics to improve and from my experience the lower ratings will be easier to get through so having intermediates play would help get more into specifics while having things to teach lower rated players at the same time

The longer the time control the better. Unfortunately we live in a short attention span world.

This is PRECISELY what we need to hear more often!

I saw a YouTube vid when I first started 7 months ago and it was two top players (one was a Master of some type) and they both talked out loud over a game and said their thinking from both sides of the board. It was AMAZING to see as they both evaluated the same game.

I don't think ANYTHING would be better than that (my personal opinion and just being honest). :-)

ADDED: This was video recorded so they weren't in same room which was perfect for stopping each vid for discussions.

15+10 will give you enough time for instructional thinking during a game. I'm more interested in the middle game because I've learned from Stockfish that in some positions there may be two or three reasonable moves to go forward and, other positions, only one right move exists. Is it possible to see that during game play, or is that something only Stockfish can do due to its superior calculation? Magnus Carlsen says he can usually sense the best move even if he doesn't calculate it.

Finally I agree with you

I'm thinking choice D, because the more skilled the opponent the more skilled you become, but if commentary becomes too difficult during D play, switch over to choice C. I'll be the first to say that playing high level chess while commenting is very difficult.
