Bishops

the bishop pair can be decisive!
I almost always will trade a knight for a bishop.
bishops have a much greater ability to stop pawns in a endgame as opposed to a knight.
I have never once heard a grandmaster say " I'm only down a bishop."

Bishops move infinitely diagonally, and are worth 3 points.
Rooks move infinitely horizontally or vertically. Mirroring the bishop, and its worth 5 points.
The math doesn't add up

a single bishop can only control one color of squares.
a single rook can control both color of squares.
at best a single bishop can only patrol 15 squares and the amount decreases as it moves to the edge of the board.
a single rook patrols 16 squares from every square on the board.

Geometrically rooks are much more powerful than bishops
Here's an easy reason as to why rooks are worth more: You can mate with K+R but not K+B
