Blocking Members Manifesto

Why do you concern yourself so much with trolls. To put this much thought into it can't be good for you. Just ignore them and go on about your day.

The funny thing is, this is the reaction trolls want. You may as well put a troll target on your back.

Allright DoggyStyle first let me inform bigpoison (assuming he was talking to me) of the following:  I do not have other accounts (although I'm guessing there are some people who would like to take credit for mine) and I don't appreciate the implication.

Doggy_Style I presume you want to hear of the items I said should not be allowed.  Here are three:

1)  I don't think members should be allowed to change their names ever; or acquire an old member's name.  Granted there is the possibility some may leave the site and come back with a new name.  Some of you who are reading this may think it a minor issue, however I believe the most cunning of the trolls can cause some serious problems simply by changing their names.

2)  Multiple profiles/personalities should not be allowed or at the least: limited as much as possible.  Of course you cannot prevent those who would be classified as clinically insane--or sociopaths, given the oppurtunity--from becoming members and the reason it should not be allowed or limited is basically due to this fact; there's a little more to it, but not much.  I'm aware you cannot prevent someone who is really intent on having multiple profiles, yet I suspect there is some way to get better control over the current predicament.

3)  No editing old posts; only deleting should be allowed.  Or editing old posts should be extremely limited (and if so), those limitations clearly stated when a member attempts to do as much.  The most cunning trolls have used this to serious advantage and I've noticed.

I have a couple more suggestions but they're not suitable to the forums.  I am quite willing to hear anyone's opinion who agrees or objects to what I've said in this comment; however I think anyone who objects would be wise to provide a good explanation as to why?

1. I think you are only allowed one name change. I have already used mine since I hated my previous name. So obviously I think current policy is just fine.

2.I definetly agree with that, but I don't think it can work in practice. Multiple alias can cause all kinds of issues, but who can stop it?

3. Disagree, a picky person like me almost always goes back and fixes stupid mispellings and punctuation.

I get the feeling you obsess over these forums too much. Kick back, have fun. I have noticed you are very uptight. You are going to die before you hit 30 at that rate.

Is this an objection?  If so, why do you object?

To answer your question I've noticed how the trolls treat so many of the members here and consider it appalling.  I believe something should be done to improve the situation.  It is true I've put a "troll target" on my back just as you said.  I did this long ago, but I can handle it.  I believe there are many who cannot, not to mention all the members I happen to believe are no longer here because of those trolls.  This is why I did it.

I think if you could handle it you wouldn't be fussing so much.

If you are unhappy about it, submit a ticket like everyone else. Either that or just get your blood pressure down to a manageable level and enjoy life.

It's the Internet. Trolling is not a new concept. You can either be sucked in and worry about it, as you have, or get on with life. I know which is prefer. Each to his own I guess.

Sunofthemorninglight

life has a way of mirroring your issues back to you.

No ubik42, I have no need to block anyone.  I would ask a few questions of you though if I expected you would answer them honestly.  The situation being what it is, I'm done talking to you.

Yeah, anyway, if I was going to pick trolls in the thread...

But I won't!

I haven't even started "fussing" yet, or worrying.  My blood pressure is very good, thanks for the concern.  This is a hot topic at the moment so I'm addressing it.  And so far I've spent very little time and effort on these issues.  Though I admit I might be interested to see how the trolls start behaving if I double the time and effort.  Or increase it ten-fold.

GenghisCant

Well, if you've got that sort of time to spare, go for it. Again, playing into their hands though. Basically you are giving up your own time to give the trolls what they want. If you don't see the flaw in your logic then there's not much else to say on it. Good luck.

It is self-inflicted wounds.

Spartanemesis, your heart seems to be in the right place. (Defending those who are attacked, bullied, abused, have their identities stolen and credit card info sold to 3rd parties for advertising purposes.)

Unfortunately, there would have to be much time and effort expended into righting all the wrongs that seem to happen right under the noses of those who wish it to stop but must feel powerless to do even the first thing about it.

However, it is a cause I can support, so let me know what you come up with as an agenda and I'll do what I can to help if it's what I think it is. Those most cunning trolls may have finally met their match!

Aha!  The voice of reason.

Thanks Learningthemoves.  I sense your heart is in the right place as well. Maybe I will put a little time into it and get back to you.

one of the conditions diagnosed of being a troll is the "seeing trolls everywhere" phenomenon.

netzach

Okay you two.

As long as this has nothing to do with Mayans or Aliens carry on.

Ubik42

Not unlike the movie a few years ago about seeing dead people.

can it be about body snatchers ?

netzach

Suppose we could use an injection of ethics around here. Embrace and be receptive to L & S's new-world-vision?

SPARTANEMESIS

Or chaos?

I was cleaning out the toilet bowl, and saw we had trolls. Should I be worried?
