Long Live Catalonia !!!

Catalonia is in Spain, Scotland is in UK. And so on.

It's all about greed. Catalan is strong economically to be independent. The citizen in all states of catalan are rich compare to others.. But they need to understand that part of tax payer money that flow from catalan to Madrid is for the people of Spain..the needy.. The hospitable.. The civil servants.. School... Stop being greedy an This kind of greed will only be temporary. It will hv long term political impact that will not benefit both catalan and Madrid Spain How many more places that wanted positive over optimist change but end up otherwise.. Naive is only the word for people of catalan. The system should not back the rich.

I stayed in Catalonia one time. In a really nice hotel.

It was on a dark desert highway.
JBabkes

I thought that alot of people in this region wanted to create an independent Catalonia.

Pepinoconquesoo

It's all about greed and imposing their independence over the majority of Catalans that actuality doesn't want independence. Fires who supported Spain the most when the American war? Catalonia, because their colonies in latin America, Cuba Puerto Rico etc The media tools Catalan government has spread about Spain as being a fascist authoritarian country is just admirable in terms of lobbying, but fake nonetheless. To me chess.com is another example of lobbying to show Catalonia as a country on the media (how explain you can find a Catalan flag as a country) Spain is a democracy with its flaws like every other country, but is one of the best places to live in terms of freedom, schooling and Medicare. Let's remember as an example of freedom Madrid was the European gay capital, that would never happen on a fascist authoritarian country, doesn't it?. Not to mention the quality of life, people's, culture, history Everything else Catalonia sells about Spain is straight passionate, irrational bs

lfPatriotGames

Now I'm starting to see why Catalonia might want out of Spain.

Pulpofeira

The bullfighting?

Ziryab

The Texas flag should be an option, as it once was independent.

Is Canada independent? Ireland?

But, don't give credence to these separatists movements in the US that are pushed by right-wing racists, such as Liberty for my region. These people belong in jail, not government.

Thee_Ghostess_Lola

Like Catalonia, so too is California (spanish region). dont think they want outta the USA tho'.

Ziryab

California ceased being a Spanish region in 1822; it ceased being Mexican in 1848.

Pulpofeira

And as soon as it ceased to be a territory to become a state, Ben Rumson abandoned it. sad.png

Basically, what is happening in Cataluña is that a far-right-wing and corrupt clan has brainwashed part of the catalan people into believing that they want independence - all for the sake of keeping their positions and avoiding spanish justice.

Historically, Cataluña never has been an independent country - the closest they have ever been to something like that was in medieval times when they were a county with a count who ignored his lord (the king of france). Through marriage, the region became part of the Crown of Aragon and afterwards, again through marriage, of the Spanish crown. For a few decades, during the XVII and XVIII century, Cataluña formed part of France, but then it was returned to the Spanish king; he still holds the title Count of Barcelona etc.

It can be argued that Cataluña has its own identity, but so do many other regions, not only in Spain but all over the world.

Concerning a chess.com flag, I'm not a big fan of natianalism/patriotism. One world! For me, no flags at all, please...

As long as there are people, that doesn't seem very likely. People like to be with other people who are like minded. That's why you have some people who like chess.com, and other people who like other chess websites. Imagine if there were only one chess organization in the world. It's also why people like to root for the home team in sporting competitions.

It's hard to blame someone, or a group of people, for wanting out of something they dont like. It's just human nature to want freedom from things  you dont like. Freedom, liberty, competition, independence aren't just important for every day living, they are what created the game of chess. In chess, you need opposing sides. Everyone cant be on the same side, as long as there are people anyway.

Farms, bulls and more bulls, olé!

I sure do love my paella!

Somebody pushed his agenda to have chess.com list Catalonia as a country with its own flag, while it's actually not. It's called lobbying. What about Texas? Crimea? Palestine? Can Paris be listed as a country? What is the application process for this? Can my bedroom be my own country?
