Chess and Mental Health

I can imagine that over the board games could be helpful for some people in quiet settings .
But online play could expose them to a lot, including occasionally abusive people who could make them worse.

I'm really not joking when I say Tetris, especially Tengen Tetris, is great therapy for ocd people or people with ptsd.

Our brains tend to want to finish tasks once we start them. This is because our brain has a built in reward system that releases dopamine when a task is completed.
Basically, monkey see task. Monkey do task. Monkey finish task. Monkey happy.

If you have mental health issues you should NOT be anywhere near the internet. But chess in person could be a good thing.

I can only assume that the Abuse behaviour is usually triggered from the dreaded chat between players, at least 60% of them... one says 1 thing, another disagrees, next thing its a game of verbal Tennis!? I personally do not engage in chat between games and i would advise not to, for myself i have not experienced any abuse, yes someone may send a message saying your jammy, or you were lucky and so on, but its always best to not acknowledge. my only real chat is to wish best of luck before a game and that's where it ends! after all we are playing chess not Facebook or twitter?
