Is there a chess app without play board?

Really dont like there being a play board as it ruins the game as scenarios can just be played out.

Are you asking about Blindfold Chess on Chess.com?

or

Are you wanting to play Daily Chess where Analysis board is not permitted?

I decided the Analysis Board in Daily Chess was making me a weaker player because I was not having to visualise the various variations in my head.

That said, with Daily Games it can be easy to lose track of plans on the board after a busy day else where. I prefer to play a slow game in one sitting. However, when it comes to the issue of remembering one’s plans on Daily, the Analysis Board can be useful.

I agree that there is nothing to stop someone using an Analysis board offsite so banning the feature makes no sense. I do think though, to prevent one player being at a disadvantage, it should be stated by the player/s or site if one is using an Analysis board. It is when this does not happen that it can feel like the opponent has an unfair advantage - which is probably the motivation for the OP’s question.

Hello both. Thanks for the response. I think it is making me worse as I use it and dont see things rather just play out scenarios.

Of cousre it shouldnt be banned. I just have some mates that if i sit down and play them I can win fairly easily but struggle on the apps as they work out more stuff! Maybe i am just being a grump haha.

I am wanting to find a chess app where an analysis board is not available?

Thanks very much!

I agree with your point of view that relying on Analysis board makes one a weaker player and that some players, inclusion people you know personally, hide behind the Analysis board to win games and then won’t admit to using it.

The compromise is that the site and app should specify when someone is using an Analysis board. I think some people would actually not use it if they knew the other player could see they were using one. If the site and app specified the opponent was using an Analysis board you could choose to use one too and not feel bad that you were taking an unfair advantage - though if you felt that way, you’d message the opponent and let them know.

Good stuff Rubicon. Do you know if there is an app without an analysis board?

I am sorry, I do not know. There are dedicated correspondence chess sites out there but I do not know the specifics of their settings and facilities.

Resurrecting this discussion. I have been using the analysis board as a default for years. It has made my mind incredibly lazy and I suffer at over-the-board chess. There should be an option in settings to turn it off. Also, whenever a game challenge is issued it should have a question - with or without analysis board. And ideally, if no is selected, it disables it for both players for that game. I know one could still cheat, but this would definitely add friction.
