2024 Chess.com Community Championships series announces its second event of the year: The Chess960 Championship launches June 17 and YOU are welcome to take part in the exciting back rank scrambled action!

With two qualifiers per day everyday from June 17 to June 20, the event is nothing short of opportunities to enjoy this widely popular chess variant in competitive fashion.

In order to participate, you must be a member of the Chess.com Community club, and must have played at least 25 rated Chess960 games.

The eight winners from each qualifier advance to an eight-player single-elimination Knockout Final, which will be decided June 21 with live broadcast in our Chess.com’s Community YouTube and Twitch channels.

  • Variant: Chess960
  • Prize Fund: $7,500
  • Qualifiers Format: 9-Round Swiss, 5+2 Blitz, Rated. Winner advances to Knockout Finals.
  • Qualifiers Dates: Two tournaments per day, from June 17 to June 20.
  • Qualifiers Times: Days 1, 3 and 4 at 11am and 5pm ET; Day 2 at 1:30pm and 7:30pm ET.
  • Finals Format: 8 Players Knockout. QF and SF: Best of 4 games. Finals: Best of 6.
  • Finals Date & Time: June 21 at 12pm ET with live broadcast.

June 13 Update:

We will have six Chess960 Friendly Practice Events—two each day from June 14 to June 16, at 11am ET and 5pm ET, respectively—for those who would like to practice beforehand and complete the minimum 25 rated live Chess960 games required in order to join the main event qualifiers. Each tournament is Arena format, 3 hours duration, 3+2 time control. Make sure you are a member of the Chess.com Community club so that you can join the fun!
