You're on a chess site, so hopefully you are intelligent.  Use your brain to resist manipulation into that kind of situation.  Remember, they may be cool now, but in a few years you'll have graduated college and they will be working minimum wage in a factory.

GEEKS play Dungeons & Dragons.

NERDS play Chess.

So you're saying I was a geek in high school, but I graduated to nerd as an adult?

I'm a geek/nerd/whatever... all my past girlfriends have eventually started calling me geeks, but...

 1.  I can get girlfriends Cool

2. They seem to like the fact that I am "smart", while at the same time being a normal guy.

I think it's a cool thing to be classified as a geek as long as you can still be "cool" at the same time, and I think overall people like that.  I think as long as you aren't one of those eccentric, odd kind of geeks... then it's a good thing. :)

I think you can still be cool and be a geek at the same time.

However, if you go with the definition that "Hawkeyes" said... than I guess I wouldn't consider myself a geek then.

everyone is equal and unique in their own way. it doesnt matter about jobs, money or what you do. once your happy, and dont harm anyone else; all is good.

imo people who play chess are not smarter (or less smarter) than people who dont play chess, after all, the american (or world) average grade is probably something like 1400. which doesnt require much study time really, does it? Undecided

Well, Dmytro, I left Russia quite a long time ago so I probably don't remember mych Russian, but I think the Russian word for "geek" is something like "zubrila". And basically a geek is someone who likes science and maths and chess and conspiracy theories and cracking codes and establishing contact with aliens, and whose idea of fun is studying, and who doesn't have all the coolest people at school coming to their birthday party for some reason... Hey, I just described myself! Oh well. At least I cat get consolation in the fact that you can't spell "uncool" without "cool"!

I am a 16 year old kid from Australia

I play far too much sport including: rowing, water polo and basketball.

But yet I play computer games and chess in all of spare time, does that make me a nerd?

Pretty stupid topic....

a Geek was a performer in a travelling circus show who would chase chickens around and bite off thier heads.  now people use geek as both the pejorative, "nerd" and the complimentary "computer whiz."

do you bite heads off of chickens? are you a computer whiz? are you a nerd?  if you answer yes to any of these, then you are a geek.

i play chess.  therefore, i am a chessplayer.  i also ride a bmx bike, a mountain bike, and a road bike, so i am also a cyclist.  and i ride a fixed gear bike, drink, have tattoos, listen to punk rock music, and drink, so i am also called a punk.  i write a blog, so i'm a blogger.  i like porn, so i'm a pervert.

just names dude, they all mean nothing.   if you want to be a geek, then you are. if you don't, then you are not.

Right on the money with that statement, chessloser

Geek-chic is where it's at. My nearly-6-year-old son has been keenly watching my chess.com antics and is now obsessed with the chess set he got for Christmas. We're geek-bonding and it's great: the key as far as I can tell is to have confidence and pride in one's own geekness... this is surely the best defence against wedgies etc., so I'm drilling him in geek-pride. On the other hand, maybe I'll flush his head down the loo occasionally too, to give him training in that as well as the chess....

my cousin is a geek he get wedgies from my brother and they give gim swirlies
