maestro70,

(my post is about western chess, not shogi!)

Check out Tokyo Chess Meetup.

Next meetup is at a pub in Shimokitazawa. I'm one of the organizers, if you have suggestions for other locations let me know.

The Japanese Chess Association (JCA) holds a number of tournaments per year. If you're a foreigner and are here temporarily you can get a discounted membership.

You might also want to look up Chess Center at Ikegami. It's the "official" club for JCA. It's open on weekends only, and sometimes there are classes or tournaments so you need to check their schedule (on their blog in Japanese) or call them beforehand.

Apart from that there's a number of small clubs/"circles" in Tokyo and surroundings. They typically meet once a month, and all the info is in Japanese.
