Also in live chess we should have a "pause game" button whilst we type what does everyone think?
Chess.com Feature Request and Wishlist #6

I disagree. The game starts with White's first move.
that's easy to say when you're playing over the board and both people are present. but in an online world, it isn't so obvious to players when the game has started. maybe they are in another tab, grabbing a snack, or not looking at the screen.
Well, it's supposed to be Live Chess...

Precisely, I'd like to avoid such abortions.
so you'd rather sit there while their time runs out and then win the game on time but not have it count toward ratings because it's too short? i don't follow...
You're right about this, lol.
I wouldn't wait for them so long, though, I'd abort the game after maybe a whole minute. But if the opponent moves before I left he/she would have less time in their clock. Just as it would happen OTB, I think.

You simply can't give White all the time in the world for their first move and not Black. If you start Black's clock immediately then you must also do so for White, however, I still think that it's ideal the way it is.
Maybe you're right, but still I'd prefer White's clock starting running immediately after pressing the "accept" seek/challenge/rematch link.

I'd support a pause game option only if it required approval from your opponent to both pause, and unpause. I think it might also be prudent to then blank out both screens once a game had actually been paused. That being said, I don't know that the work that would be required to implement something like that would really be worth the small amount of benefit.

that's a good idea, though people could still take screen shot images of the game in progress.

Yeah, I've also always thought that Vacation mode in Turn Based should also prevent you from seeing your games, although since all games are viewable by individuals not even logged in it's not hard to get around. In principal I still think it's a good idea, though -- you'll never be able to close all of the loopholes.

pause game would only be good if both people would agree to pause but the opponent is the only 1 to unpause

Hey Erik....love the new mouseover username info, but is it possible to expand it so whenever there is a username anywhere (e.g. the usernames under the "Most Recent Posts" section, or maybe when you first logon you see your friends online) then their data will pop up? Certainly not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth here....

Mmm, speaking of expanding mouse-over functionality, can we please have the pop-up boards appear when we mouse over games on the alerts window?

The new (& very pleasing) pop-up on forum posts has highlighted for me a minor annoyance that may be difficult to change.
Dates are shown in American format (not unreasonable - if it matters that much to me I should launch my own competitor site to chess.com). To those who use the Little-endian format (most of the world see - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar_date#Little_endian_forms.2C_starting_with_the_day) this is often confusing.
How feasible is it to determine a user's geographical location (it is possible because sites often restrict users from certain parts of the world - I'd be interested to know how it's done. IP address ...?) & display the date in the local format?

hmmm...true. the person may not be american, he could be from some other part of the world. so maybe, just maybe, the time on the pop-up for that particular person will follow the time of the person's country. All this just to avoid discrepancies (if that's the right spelling).

I don't know if there's any way to do so due to browser security issues, but accessing the international settings on each user's PC would ensure consistency with the date formats they use.

Groups:
- Group Vote Chess and Team Match ratings
- The ability to fill the "Invite" box with random usernames to save time (or would that be too spammy?)
- More Types of Admins (Admin, Super Admin, Captain, etc)
Variants:
- Bughouse
- Chess with 2 boards (4 of each piece, 2 queens 2 kings, 16 pawns)
Live Chess:
- Longer time controls (G/30, 60)
etc.
- A "Chat" box on your "My Home" page (like on Facebook, shows who you can chat with like an instant chat)
- Seperate Chess960 archive from cc
- A Chess960 page and an Online Chess page on everyone's account
- Vote Chess archive

Not sure if this should be here or in a separate topic, but here goes.
For vote chess games, the get PGN function does not work quite ideally at present.
I would request that the PGN file have the two names of the teams as the players (they seem to be both blank at present).
Also I would request that the PGN Event field be set to "Vote chess" so that these games can be distinguished from individual games. At present both games have the Event field set to "Online chess".

We should be able to see someones average opponent when viewing an open seek or a challenge
A good idea, and I think RD might also be a good addition to the available information.
RD in general tends to site behind the scenes and you only really see it if you go to a player's detailed stats. I think that there is a lot of benefit to be had all around by giving this supplimenetal data-point more exposure throughout.
One other peice of information I wish was more readily accessibly is remaining vacation time. Currently you only ever see how much vacation an individual has left when they're actually on vacation.
