Forums unread posts used to be a string or litany of pages and pages on forever, it has been reduced to a mere 30 to 45 minutes or so.

I am very happy to see this change  with the new approach as I do not have to read every post for days on to remove them from my list.

I would however suggest a 24 hour coverage rather than 1/2 hour or so, many people like me go daily on the site to play games and 24 hours would cover the unread posts in a more realistic way.

I agree with that

How about a spam button on a forum post? It will not be deleted until being first reviewed by a moderator to see if it actually spam. I've seen quite a few threads where people just copy and paste an entire page from one of their groups without any content in it.

Or where people link to an off topic forum page about something entirely unrelated to the forum topic in which they're posting....

I think it would be a much less onerous means of getting inappropriate material and spam reported and that the forums would benefit quite a bit from it provided there's manpower to actually follow up on the reports.

When you look at a tournament table and hold the mouse marker over the - which is the game you get to see a little board with the position. This is great, but you don't see who plays white and black. I suggest always putting the player on that line of the tournament table at the bottom part of the diagram. That would be very handy for getting a quick overview of how other players in the same tournament as you are doing.

One thing that I would love to see is a feature on the mobile applications which notify the user when it is his/her move.

It doesn't need to check with the server every 2 seconds, to me every 30 minutes would be reasonable though if this was implemented some users would likely complain about that frequency.

If implemented, it maybe should be an optional feature. I'm sure some users still live in the "stoneage" of cellular data plans. They may get charged by their providers for every byte of data transfer between their carrier and their phone.

I hope you like the suggestion. Cheers!

I would really like to be able to set up games with any position, for practice against human opponents, especially endgames. For instance, I would like to practice K+B+N vs K, or K+B vs K+R.

Off course, by their nature, these should be unrated.

There should be a way for comments you posted in Articles, News etc. to show up under your "Recent Activity". At the moment you can only see your Forum postings there.

This is a much-needed feature (if it doesn't exist). Otherwise you can quickly lose track of which Articles, News etc. you posted comments in. Thanks.

Hmmm this probably has been said (not even sure how old this post is) but it could be nice that in Live chess, if someone disconnects, it starts a countdown to see if you can make it on time, or if that is too troublesome, let the opponent decide if he/she wants to abort the game -with the countdown as well- (in case he/she is losing or feels like the game is not decided doesnt want to win like that).

Thanks for reading.

it would be a good idea to be able to adjourn games in live chess for situations like disconnects or emergencies. Obviously both players would have to agree to adjourn. I know if someone asked to me to adjourn a game I wouldn't want to just sit there and wait for the clock to tick down for a win. You could also have an adjourned games tab next to the seek tab showing your adjourned games and weather or not your opponents are on line. If they are on line you could just pick up from where you left off.

I have thought about this feature for unrated games in the past. Sometimes you timeout on game you wanted to finish, or both players really want to know where a different move would have led.

At the moment, the way to do this is that 1 person creates a conditional line and the other logs in and manually repeats his/her replies later. Its a bit tedious though.

I imagine a feature like this would be desirable for online chess coaches too.

With the advent of chess 960 on this site would it not be appropriate to open up a new forum heading or category called chess 960? where people can bring about their ideas and especially on how to castle and anything else?

See my post: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess960-chess-variants/how-to-castle-properly-in-chess960.

Would be a great addition for the site where people can bring about only chess 960 ideas or opinions or suggestions or way of playing the game etc.

I believe there is already a forum on it where you can discuss the game and rules regarding it including how to properly castle in chess960:  http://www.chess.com/forum/category/chess960-chess-variants

I am too lazy to read 40 pages of discussion so maybe it is suggested before.

1. I am an admin of a small group. When we play votechess a small number of group members participate. Sometimes nobody votes because they are busy and we lose our vote chess game. I would suggest that the superadmin of a group gets a message when the vote chess game is almost lost because nobody voted.

Avatar of grey_pieces

Sub-categories for group forums is a nice idea.

I'm not really involved with any groups who have a lot of off-topic discussion, but certainly in my opening groups, the ability to create seperate areas like "Post your games", "Favourite games", "Traps" would be very well received.

I wish for groups to have the option of making forum categories similar to chess.com's main ones.  Some big discussion groups could really use this.  For example, in my group Sports we could have forums like:  American Football, Basketball, Hockey, Olympics, Water Sports, Football (Soccer), etc.  Right now we are limited to using individual topics for these and it gets messy.  The forum gets cluttered with lots of topics and all can't be on the first page.  I think it could benefit a lot of groups if the Group Forums could have the option to be arranged that way.

Just a thought.

I like that too
