Chess.com the best !?
Their early stuff is fantastic -- not for every post DSOTM Floyd fan, but if you're an acid rock fan it's among the best.
I'm a fan of chess.com, Pink Floyd, and the Bongcloud.

Avid chess players and Pink Floyd; yes, this makes perfect sense. One might even venture to say I'm beginning to see the light...
Oh wait, that was a song by a cool band. My mistake.

Pink Floyd is, and will always be, a cool band.

I'm playing one of their songs at my wedding.
How about Bike?
Explain exactly why you think so. I've never been to most of the others.
I played extensively at both gameknot.com and plasticbishop.com, and I can tell you why chess.com is better.
Gameknot is very visually unpleasing, and has no forums, no community of any kind. No tactics trainer, no nothing really. No live chess either.
Plasticbishop had a better interface, and had a pretty good community. It was just very small, and very small budget.
I came here, and thought the concept of a chess site mixed with a social networking concept was a good one. Chess.com has consistently impressed me with its efforts to make itself better by constantly improving its existing features and adding new ones. I have been impressed by how responsive the staff is, and how nice the community is. There is a minimum of garbage flame wars in the forums, and you can pretty easily find someone to discuss whatever chess subject you want.
In short, I think chess.com is the best of the sites I've seen, and am confident that Erik will continue to keep it that way. Even if the added features were not worth the money, which they are, I would continue to be a premium member just to support this great site.
A very good posting, there is nothing to say more about chess.com!

Pink Floyd are not longer existing (in my opinion), when the "english gentleman" Rick Wright has gone. Now I buy the CDs of David Gilmore.
I am a platinum member here and a member of ICC (Internet Chess Club). This site has things that ICC does not have, such as online games (a kind of correspondence chess) that is my favorite kind. I like the ability to use a chessboard and the Explorer for long games, so there is little danger of falling into prepared lines. ICC does not support games with days between moves, and no computers are allowed at ALL. Maybe ICC is more strict against the use of computer help.
ICC required a special program to play, and the command-based interface is outdated and clumsy, but it is easier to find an opponent. The ICC has computer bots with various ratings that you can play for practice, and frequent tournaments run by robots.
ICC spells out their rules against computer use right on the logon page, whereas here the rules very hard to find and a new player might reasonably assume that computer help is allowed for correspondence (online) chess whereas it is not and get in trouble (it happened to me when I joined).
ICC has many more videos because it is a much older site, whereas chess.com has fewer which is normal. For example you can find dozens of very good videos on gambits on ICC, including three on my favorite Blackmar-Diemer Gambit. ICC has a special web page for watching videos. They are better for following important matches and tournaments such as the World Championship, where they had good commentators in real time whereas they did not have it here. They have many more grandmasters on line.
Both sites have good forums, but the Chess.com interface is superior; in ICC you have to switch channels and learn a lot of commands both for chatting and for playing, although there are help files that one can call up.
The learning tools on Chess.com are great, especially the Mentor and tactics trainers. You can learn your basic endings here for example, and I highly recommend that you do it! I would like to see a better openings trainer, but this will come with time. ICC hs nothing similar or I haven't found it.
In sum, both sites are good and which is best may depend on your tastes and needs.

until the UFOs start registering on chess.com, ... Erik and his crew still have a lot of work to do!

Welcome! Another pretty good site is chessbase.com. You get a one year subscription for free when you buy the Fritz program. It is somewhat German-oriented, and you have to pay 'ducats" (you can buy them) to participate in certain events such as lessons. I find chess.com and ICC a good mix, but I also have Chessbase since I just bought Deep Fritz 12 (the free Stockfish and Fire both beat it at blitz but they both need an interface such as the Fritz GUI).
TheGrobe's a Pink Floyd fan?
Everyone should be a Pink Floyd fan.
Have you listened to Piper at the gates of Dawn? That may be my favorite Pink Floyd album, strangely.
