The computer opponent does not run in Chrome. The site needs to fix this. I am a paying member. I love this site, but it is falling behind. Example http://en.lichess.org/
You must be trying to use the computer in the regular Version 2 (V2) chess.com interface. I'm sure they won't be fixing it for V2, as the V2 computer requires Java, which none of the browsers support any longer.
However, the V3 computer will not require Java, so it should work. I'm told paying members can try out the not-quite-officially-released V3 interface now by clicking on some link near the bottom of the page.
