Clock Hacking

Erik, respectfully, clock hacking is quite simple. It requires a proficient programmer to packet edit. To fire up wireshark and reverse engineer the packet flow is not a biggy. Let's focus on ways to thwart the hacking, not debate whether or not its happening. Furthermore, the disconnect dilio is an open gate as well.

Not quite. The OP's 1448 Bullet rating places him in the 96th percentile, hardly "below average" for this site.

Who cares what my rating is? I battle it out with 1600-1800's and I see clear differences between those who play like 1400's and those who play like 1800s. That has nothing to do with clock hacking. Anyway, I am barking up the wrong tree. I tried to take an ethical approach. It's amazing how naive people are. I suppose that is why they trust google too. I am fighting a losing battle. I will drop it. Of course there is no hacking, lol. And google is your friend, and privatization of governement toll booths and water works is good for America. Man alive, I can't believe how naive people are. Anyway, it's your game. Thanks for the feedback to those who listened to the actual post. In the meantime...

Erik, if you want to PM me with the clock logic, I will hack it for you. But if I have to do the packet sniffing and watch the memory variables and trace the stack, etc. or check the pointers, via debugging, then it's not worth it to get points. But if you are serious about finding flaws, I will fire up softice and my debugger, and wireshark and play around. Java is harder than flash, but entirely feasible.

I can see packet editing working, but I think it's just paranoiac to think that anyone's actually gone through the trouble.

If the clock functionality and lag compensation code is written well, however, the there should be no way that intentional intermittent disconnects, well timed or otherwise, should be able to provide any benefit.

I can think of one way that is fairly simple way which, based on my understanding of how the clocks are managed, should work quite well to manipulate the clocks.  For what should hopefully be pretty obvious reasons, however, I won't be disclosing it.

You carefully studied a few thousand games for clock hacking in three weeks?

And satisfying yourself is hardly sufficient proof for the rest of us.  Why don't you take Erik's challenge, provide real proof, and earn yourself a lifetime free membership?

Loomis, please stay on the subject. It's my opinion. But you happen to be incorrect.

Premise, the more people that join, the more you will hear about hacking.

Proof: I searched the forums about hacking issues. It was pretty quiet. I joined less than 3 weeks ago and after carefully studying a few thousand games, I satisfied my belief that hacking is happening. I then proceeded to write a post. Hence you are hearing more about it.

You don't have to prove your premise. Your premise is taken as a given (and easily demonstrable). It is your conclusion that doesn't follow from your premise, as I stated previously.

Your premise: You will hear more about clock hacking as chess.com gets more popular.

Your Conclusion: Clock hacking is going on.

The problem is, you hear more about everything -- both true and false -- as more people join the site. Simply having more complaints about clock hacking doesn't prove that it's going on.

Isn't the free chess.com account a lifetime membership in itself?

If so, what is erik offering? He didn't say Gold, Platinum or Diamond. Undecided

Well, if you want to focus on how to thwart it, then do as he says, show him PROOF (ideally privately,) and then he'll do his best to come up with a way to thwart it. If you know so much about hacking, then you know that it's difficult to thwart unless someone knows exactly how it's done.

Also, knowing Erik, he's not likely to give you the clock logic, but if you can show him how to hack the system w/o knowing the logic fist, he'd be VERY interested.

Clearly a poster who didn't read the opening post. Disregarded.

I wouldn't use Google. I use Scroogle.org instead. I don't trust google. They are not your friend.

I'd not heard of Scroogle before.  I just checked it out, and it is now my default search engine.  Thanks!!!

Scroogle.org is awesome. FYI: Here is how I have it.

https://ssl.scroogle.org

Then your provider won't see the search. Also, use your own DNS.

You conclusion doesn't follow from your premise. If some number of chess.com members think the moon is made of cheese, there will be more and more of these members as chess.com gets more popular. That's because there will be more and more of every kind of person as chess.com gets more and more people, not because the moon is actually made of cheese.

Everyone knows the moon is made of chess.

 It's moldy too.

 Because that makes sense.

Erik,

I have the clock hack working. Let me know when you want to test.

With the computer, I tested on 5/0 game.

I am able to freeze the clock, take my time (but not more than 60 seconds), and then move. No time lost. It would work as long as I needed to, but you have a failsafe kill at 60 secs. That is server side and out of my control. But client side I am controlling 100%

PM me please at your convenience.

And also he would like a lifetime membership now ;)

Awesome! Thanks for telling us! Can you send me the details of how to do it? I am tired of losing in chess!Laughing
