The opening was invented by William Henry Kraus Pollock in the 1890’s, an Irish chess champion. Under the heading “Queer Moves in Chess,” Mrs. F. F. Rowland, editor of Pollock Memories, explains the origin of this curious and extremely interesting opening known as the “Kings Own Opening.”
