• Move sequence:
1. Rf8+ Kg7
2. Rg8+ Kf7
3. Rf8+ Kg7
4. Rg8+ Kf7
• Here, White keeps checking Black’s king, forcing it to shuffle between g7 and f7. After the position repeats three times (same pieces, same player to move, same legal moves), White can claim a draw. Spicy because it’s a bold “I’m not losing!” move that can infuriate an opponent who thought they had the game in the bag!
This tactic is especially hot in blitz games, where time pressure makes it hard for your opponent to realize you’re steering toward a draw. Another spicy twist? Some players deliberately repeat moves twice to bait their opponent into thinking they’ll repeat a third time, then switch to a winning move instead—psychological warfare at its finest!
