. . . It started with the loss of short term memory . . . Sometimes it takes a while until the doctors say what it is . . .

Finally the doctors decided the name of the dementia my wife has . . .

APHASIA dementia . . . it is the sometime loss of the words to use about short term memory . . .

There aren't any meds for it . . . but it will progress slowly compared to other dementias . . .

Studies show a ketogenic diet can slow and even reverse symptoms of memory loss and cognitive impairment throughout all the dementia stages

There is no more medical testing nor any meds that will be given to her because none are available.. . . Looks like we are on our own now. . . .

My wife's condition has not progressed much but her acceptance is stable. . . no meds are being taken for the Aphasia. . .

I gave up bowling on Wednesdays and my away 8 hour away from town matches. . .

It is now September I started bowling in a league 2 1/2 hours away from my wife . . . she is okay with that . . .

I am teaching chess for kids at the LIBRARY each Tuesday afternoons for fourteen weeks it is only 2 hours away from my wife. . .

She does asks "what are we doing tomorrow?" repeatedly as she is trying to remember. . .

We go to grandchildren soccer games. . . She goes with her girl friends out to eat and chat they pick her up as she gave up driving in May. . .

I stared to get depressed because my activities had diminished to nil. . . but I started reading more. I purchased two Kasparov books, not chess books but like memoirs about his business chess and computer matches and. . .

On some weekends I bowl local matches so I can be home in short time. . .

I know things are changing. . . I hope I can cope with it . . . Sorry I vented a little since there isn't anyone else to tell what is going on with me. . .

Perhaps visiting a local church or calling a local pastor for a home visitation might be helpful.

Keep fighting the good fight.

If the doctor could identify the cause of this disease.Whether it's cause is physiology or metabolic. The solution depend on it's cause. If it's cause is metabolic or hormonal ,the safe alternative medication might helped. There are herbal or sea animal (deep sea fish) treatment perhaps.

We and the doctors discounted the use of ketogenic for vegetarian diet . . . My wife is 100 lbs, 110/68 blood pressure. We were married in 1961, 56 years, four grown boys, seven grandchildren . . .

Thank you for all your suggestions . . .

  1. Always have someone to check on you
  2. Keep post-it notes on your refrigerator
  3. Turn cellphone alarms on, for dates/events set on your calendar App

Try taking up Bridge together. There should be a club somewhere in your area.

I am so sorry for you.

There is nothing that I can say.

it is progressing slowly. . . . I'm developing patience, cooking, tenderness, doing things without asking . . .

I'm tired of making gentle suggestions (in another thread on this topic); I'm going to tell you this point blank --  Your ONLY chance of reversing this condition is a ketogenic diet. There are no guarantees, of course, but this is your only chance. If you don't give it a try, failure is a sure thing. And the longer you wait, the less chance of success you'll have.

As you know by now, there are no drugs that will fix this problem. The doctors who are advising you to give up are either complete morons, or they just don't care about their patients. PM me if you want more information. Otherwise, this will be my last post on the matter.

I got your point . .

But we are on an all plant diet . . . Thanks . . .

How are you today?  Thinking of you.  I wonder does stress play any part?  I also wonder why you are giving up your hobbies/weekly activities.  Does your wife need your care at these times?  It would  be better for you not to isolate yourself?  You need your outside interests, friends and interests - especially when times get hard.  Forgive me for sounding off when I obviously know nothing about your situation but these are my initial thoughts.

I'm on a meat-based keto diet, but I've heard that it's also possible to do a plant-based keto diet. From watching a couple of videos on the topic, it appears that a plant-based version of keto would be more difficult. It would take more work to hit your macro and micro nutrient targets. You'd probably have to take some extra supplements, you'd probably be spending a bit more money on food, and you'd probably have to spend more time preparing the meals. But it is possible.

A good way to learn exactly how the keto diet may improve brain related problems is to watch some of the videos from Dr. Boz (Annette Bosworth). She has a few YouTube videos that discuss the advantages of switching the brain's primary fuel source from glucose to ketones.

I said I wouldn't post again, but I felt you needed to at least know that a plant-based keto diet is possible. Now I'm done. Good luck to you and your wife.
