How did "Do you think Magnus is the Elon musk of chess" turn into just spitting facts and the truth about Elon

When I saw the comparison raised, I felt compelled to defend Magnus. It seemed like a character assassination.

I dont wanna get this thread locked, but I dont get al this Elon hate...

He did save three astronauts and the environment at the cost of...a hand gesture that was originally a Roman salute? I dont get it...

You do realize the roman salute thing is just a excuse lol and that's still bad enough ...the original meaning might have history but it means something different now you don't immediately change that whenever it doesn't sute you

He's done plenty of bad to just because he saved some and hurt more doesn't mean its it's like saying oh hay a billionare donated half his fortune after polluting the earth for millions and making them sick and now everything's fine

Besides he's made the big fat mistake of going into American politics thinking he can bribe everyone (ofc it worked but way more negatives then upsides ) he basically nuked himself and got half the people to hate him

Me neither, his love life is questionable, but beside that, he's fine.

Nononono his love life is the least questionable thing about him

If you just woke up yesterday and you don’t pay attention to much, he may seem like something he isn’t.

Since a lot of people actually do know his history, try doing a little bit of reading. He’s ghastly to employees, cares nothing for the environment (both Tesla and SpaceX are massive violators of environmental regulations and known for harming the people who actually live in the areas where they operate) and that doesn’t even scratch the surface.

His support for the illegal AfD (descendants of the Nazis) should give everyone pause along with his lies about Afrikaners.

He uses his money to control people. That alone is massively reprehensible.

Well I guess I wouldn't mind asking him a question or 3 about how rocket science, autonomous driving, and AI work.

What an insult to Magnus!

Does Magnus have innumerable complaints against him by the NLRB and EPA? Does he abuse workers and act the ingrate when he was saved by billions of dollars in government contracts when he was near bankruptcy?

Does he repeatedly use a slur against disabled people?

Does he use other players to reach high levels in gaming but fail miserably when live?

Elon is all of the above, just a terrible person overall. He buys other ideas and presents them as his own but is really rather mediocre in skills. He thinks chess is easy and boring 🙄

Magnus has proven time and again he’s the real thing. I can’t believe I’m even reading this!

Maybe you didn't understand the question. The question was do you think magnus is the elon musk of chess.

Both are considered the very best at what they do. Magnus is not famous for his personal life, neither is Elon. Personal attacks are pointless because EVERYONE has character flaws. No human is exempt. Elon Musk is famous for his innovation, his business success, and to a lesser degree what he has done to help humanity through his pusuits. He isn't famous for having human flaws, which we all do. Afterall, nobody is asking is Magnus the Robert Smith of chess.

So has Magnus taken chess to a new level, has he made hundreds of billions of dollars off of it, has Magnus's superior chess ability helped humanity? In other words, has Magnus changed the world?

It's a board game ....

Just because he's rich doesn't make him better person or better at what he does your missing the point of the question anyway its not an argument of who contributed more it's different things

Besides maybe Magnus isn't perfect but he doesn't have any erm issues at needing to be the best at everything and the only thing ur good at is making some business decisions that make say too much money

Bartholomew-Simpsonion

so money makes smart and smart means money so more money = big brain

Positive feedback loop

EVERYBODY has issues. The question isn't is Magnus the BigChessPlayer665 of chess. The question has nothing do to with personal character. I'm assuming the question is has Magnus fundamentally changed the game of chess like Elon has fundamentally changed the way tecnholgy helps people.

As I said before it's not a very good comparison because their respective fields are so different. I think a better question would be is Magnus the Bobby Fischer of chess. Or, is Elon Musk the Howard Hughes of the modern era. Both Magnus and Elon are incredible talents, at what they do, it's just that what they do don't really compare.

Its like saying is magnus the Albert Einstein of chess ? I disagree with the comparison because of what they do when they reach the top is so different one tries to manipulate others one doesn't (ex faking being good at a video game ) it's more how they are good rather than what they are good at

I don't see what's so different when comparing it it's just aaying"genius " it's not about their different fields or how many people they have effective

Again you are going back to something irrelevant. Video games? Really?

Is Magnus the Elon Musk of chess means has Magnus done something revolutionary. Has he transformed everyday life for most of humanity? Has he created or enhanced several innovative industries? Instead of trying to focus on minutia, look at the big picture. SpaceX, PayPal, Neuralink, Tesla, Open AI, Twitter, plus a few more. Has Magnus done anything even remotely as significant as Musk?

Oh, I understood the question all too well.

Elon is good at NOTHING. He has bought every idea he’s marketed to the government for billions of dollars in contracts.

Treating the designers who made you your current fortune badly isn’t genius. It isn’t admirable.

Magnus plays chess extraordinarily well.

Elon buys other people’s ideas to capitalize. He buys other people’s abilities.

Filigranova

For those who don’t read or pay attention, Elon is what we refer to as a subsidy harvester.

Money does not equal talent.
