Doomsday for Chess.com

Imagine a future where Chess.com no longer exists. Imagine all the work put into your profile; all the member points, the forums, the blogs, the photos, gone. Imagine your impeccable rating, reduced to nothing. Your collection of international friends means nothing now. Your friendship exists only in your mind because it once hung from a single rope called Chess.com which no longer exists.

Will the world close in on you? If the rope must untwist, and each fiber branches out to other places, will it hit you in the stomach like a brick? How would this rope-less future affect you?

I would be sad if chess.com dissappeared jokes aside. It is a great website.

What? You mean I'd actually have to play chess with PEOPLE? In front of me? TALKING to me?

*shudder*

That's good to know, Erik :)

I had thought of this because of the recent interruptions with the site.

Also, I just want you to know that I WILL someday upgrade my account...as soon as I start getting paid :)

Being that chess.com is a consequence of what I would assume to be ERIK's, (and at least a few other's), inventiveness and it's popularity a product of his, (and at least a few other's), dedication, it is logical to assume, that as long as there is an internet to support it, and a gaggle of chess players who have access, there will always be a chess.com:)

Yeah, it will be around long...but what if it do go down?

I would feel empty; like the picture I added up there.

The future of Chess.com would be much more secure if all you freeloaders would ante up the subscription fees. Tongue out

That forum on the chess site going down scared me because It was posted shortly after I wrote this one.

As sad as that would be, I would just move on. I lived without Chess.com before and can do so again. Let's not allow that to happen in any case. Cheers for the staff!!!

A future without chess.com would be like a broken pencil ...

...    pointless.

as long as Eric got bills to pay chess.com will be here!Laughing

Why do we go on chess.com? not to make friends or anything, just to play chess and have fun, not to make friends and get raiting...

Avatar of mkranitz

Well, you could go over the Chesscube.com, but somehow it's not as friendly or easy to use.  I ponied up $99.00 for a premium membership.  I can tell you as the owner of the world's largest community Website for radio control hobbyists (www.rcuniverse.com), that it takes an enormous amount of work to keep a site up and improve it for members; especially when members don't pay!!

Keep up the good work Erik.  The bucks will follow (I know personally!).

Of course, there are always 'alternatives', some of which are not as restrained in their offering ...

XYZChess.com is the worlds first online chess and Hip-Hop community. You can create and share profiles with your friends and triumph over enemies on the 64 squares. Not just against people in your neighborhood but from all over the world.

Play live chess with people from all over the world and get your learn on.

Create your own chess clans to see who can build the highest ranking. Play in tournaments for prizes, or just for the joy of flexin' ya mentals.
