Enjoy Chess.com More => Get Firefox

I wouldn't normally post on something like this, but I've been VERY VERY pleased with the latest Firefox browser. If you want the fastest and best browser available, I strongly recommend you download the new Firefox 3.

Firefox 3 will GREATLY improve your enjoyment of Live Chess!!

Firefox 3

I also recommend Safari as it has good rendering and JavaScript engines. I think that IE8 will probably be pretty good too, but that is still months away... Until then - Firefox 3! :)

hmm is it out proper now then? or still beta?  I was expecting an update notice from my browser when it was done.

@PerfectGent: No it's not... RC 3 was released a couple weeks ago; and they celebrated the final release of Firefox 3 (RC 3 was the same build; but it was rebranded) with a download day to try and get 5 million downloads so they could set a world record (unprecedented; no one has tried to submit this number as a world record; but they still wanted 5 million). I don't notice that much of a difference; except for the puzzle chess boards lagged at first. Now they seem to work fine. Personally; my favorite part is the URL in javascript applets; now I can open analysis boards in a new tab without going to the source :)

Having some problems withn this.  I'm using Firefox v 2.0.0.14 and would have expected the new version to come with the auto upgrades.

've downloaded the Firefox 3 install file twice now and both times  I tried to install the program I got a"corrupt file" message.  Is anybody else having this problem?

I've been using the beta versions of Firefox 3 on my notebook for a while now, and have now downloaded the final version which has just been released onto my PC.  It's noticeably faster tham version 2 and beats Opera and IE7 in my opinion.  Chess.com works like a dream with Firefox 3.

try it i use it and it works great

Thanks, Tunatin, but in you may get your knuckles rapped for using unseemly words in a forum.  "In... Exp...." indeed!  (Darn, I can't even type them.)

I don't think that'll resolve my "corrupt file" problem but I'll track down a mirror site and download from there.

Actually i just noticed that several lag issues and pages hanging/streams freezing etc when viewing multiple pages, that i thought were problems/limitations with the sites, turn out to be non-existent in "In... Exp..." Surprised  For me at least firefox is incapable of resizing a window without freezing the bbc stream i am watching, even if i do it in a separate browser window.  Hopefully firefox 3 will fix this.  Also, hopefully it will fix the insane browser hangs i frequently get when trying to view some java things in another tab.  Unfortunately this would mean i've been putting up with these things for ages when it would have worked fine in another browser.  Yell

Wow. Pages with game boards now load in 2-3 seconds rather than 3-5 seconds. The only challenge I had was needing to update all my Firefox Add-Ons.

Half your luck.  On a bad day mine can take literally minutes to load.  I normally use Firefox but have tried Safari and Opera, but still no better.

If I use my old PC I don't have any troubles, but my new (6 months) laptop is as slow as a wet weekend navigating the chess.com site.  Like Tunatin, I could sometimes get through a few chapters of War and Peace while waiting for it.  (Actually, I often play Solitaire while it's coming up.)

(Incidentally, Tuna Tin, what's your favourite sea food?)

I've just installed it. Haven't had any problems on Live Chess yet (I was having lots of problems lately), so that's a real good thing.

What I don't really understand is that Live Chess used to run smoothly on my older version of Firefox in the beginning.. I started getting problems like 2 weeks ago.

ADK

It is helpful to have during LIVE CHESS... I rarely get any problems with it anymore.

Ive not tried it for live chess yet, but I will say that for the entire internet, including chess.com, it is considerably faster... :-D

Mine didn't.  I got the updates for 2.2 OK but it didn't upgrade me to version 3.  You'll have to go get it.
