Hypothetical - Suppose you respond to someone's open challenge to a 60 minute game.  They're rated 100 pts higher than you. 15 minutes into the game you're up a piece and ten minutes later they still haven't moved.  You ask what's up and they respond that they have to go somewhere and ask for a draw.  Do you accept or reject.

I'd have to go with "reject" in these circumstances.  You played superior chess to the point the other individual said they had to vamoose, for one thing.  For another thing, it doesn't matter.  If they can't finish the game, then they should generally accept a loss by default.

I *might* cut my trusted friends a break if they were truly even (or ahead of course), but not even friends would get away with a draw if I was up a piece.  :)

I agree with DeepGreene.

When I play a chess game, either live or OTB, I always make sure I can devote the maximum time possible for game. For instance, if a friend and I are playing a game/2 hour game then I make sure my schedule is clear for at least 4 hours.

You have to leave the game, you lose. it is as simple as that.
