WHY DO CUSTUM PUZZLE EVEN EXIST THEN??!! YOU HAVE TO BE SOLVING HARD PUZZLES AS YOUR RATING TO STAY IN YOUR RATING! THIS IS A JOKE! PLAYERS GOT FROM 2000 TO 3000+ PLUS IN DAYS! ONLY BY SOLVING 1000 RATED PUZZLES ON AVERAGE!! WTF!

Custom puzzles are unrated and you can filter down to specific rating ranges or themes.

this is frustrating, I have been grinding for months to get to 3300 puzzle rating in the old system, solving very hard puzzles. now with the new system I see a lot of players solving 1000 rated puzzles and getting to 3000 rating without solving any hard puzzles. the ratings are now officially useless. it seems like chess.com are just trying to give users high puzzle rating to let them feel better and be happy with their non fair new high ratings. come on, this is a joke. so many people got from 2000 to 3000 in DAYS!!!!

I believe it depends some in the member. I'm getting slightly more right than normal, on Hard, but my rating is staying around the same range it always has.

thanks for responding to the rhetorical question and ignoring the main issue. with this new system, my rating I have been working on is completely irrelevant as any player can get there now by solving very low rated puzzles. this is a joke

Speed is now more important than intelligent thinking. Not very fast solving of easy puzzles leads to only +5, but I got already -24 for not solving one of these puzzles. In the end, puzzle rating seems to stay at around the same level. But is it now more helpful solving these puzzles for winning games or not?

I feel somewhat similar but then ehhhh... I think to myself, what's a puzzle Elo anyway? It's nothing, really.

THAT SAID: I think it was extremely unprofessional to have put out a patch like that and NOT HAVING INFORMED ANYONE ABOUT IT.

Frankly, to have to find out about it in this manner is a slight to the reputations of the chess.com team.

I have to add. Just roll it back, I don't want a score I don't deserve

to me the puzzle rating is important, it showed my progression and it was really hard to get to 3300. it really meant something - it meant I solved hard puzzles to get there. now its worth nothing. why is there still a puzzle leaderboard? its all irrelevant now.

It's indeed a new thing as Martin reported in post #24 in this thread.

Can I propose we return to the old puzzle systeem pre this patch?

yes i have the same view as you

It disrupts the idea we have of our real level in tactics. If chesscom finds it funny to modify everything, they should at least communicate so that we have benchmarks and conversion possibilities. I have the impression that by putting "very hard" it remains similar to the old mode, maybe chesscom could confirm and explain what they did wrong.

Yeh- we all want to IMPROVE and we use ratings to check progress over time- around 6/7 years ago something else happened to puzzle ratings and we went from ratings more closely related to game ratings (for me around 1500) to 2600. Anyway we continued to see how our progress advanced with the new score and now it’s happened again.

I’ve gone from below 2,200 to 2,932 in 3 days. Something IS definitely amiss. However, I must admit I do enjoy my new rating but the problems have been strangely easy.

Extra Hard should be very close to the original algorithm. I'm finding Hard to be similar enough as well, though I'm getting more +5 than previously, I'm also getting exposed to more tactical patterns that I'm missing and not calculating as well, some of which are a lot lower rated, which is keeping my rating in my historical range still

If I slowed down and only do puzzles when I'm in the right mental zone, I might be able to get higher than my pre-change highest, but my guess is not by much. At least at the Hard level.

You've been playing for 2 years, you've reached 2600, and you've set yourself the goal of 3000 in 1 year, but with their reform we no longer know what the goal is in the end since what does 3000 actually correspond to?

Martin_Stahl

Ultimately I think the biggest factor is the new system doesn't play well with the minimum of +5 , regardless of the difference between player and puzzle rating. That said, if that was changed, ratings would likely drop a lot from failing puzzles with a larger rating gap

Running-Turtle

I have been reporting the issue of puzzle strategy literally for months, but nobody cares from chess.com side. No response at all.
