I am very disappointed today to learn that chess.com (temporarily?) puts fake FIDE-titles on some profiles.
Some says it a (bad) joke, others that it is to alow the profiles to participate in restricted tournaments. Non of these reasons can in my view justify the activity.
Can you explain why that is important to you?
1. Because I believed what chess.com wrote: that only realy titled players (titled by FIDE) can have these titles put on their profile. Not I have learned, that it is not so. What else from chess.com can I not believe?
2. Sometimes I play a titled player. And it was great fun, despite that I normally would lose. But now? It could just be a fake title.
3. It shows disrespect of the real FIDE-titles.
4. If a joke (and I hope not) it is tasteles and probably sexistic.
They seemed to stop this for a while, but now they are doing it again :-(

No. It is not banners but 'titles' given (for a period) by chess.com to some streamers. Sad.
I don't think it is cosmetic. People fight hard for these titles in real life. And it shows that you cannot trust chess.com. They lie to us.
Do you want to use a fake Doctor? Society is built on respect for hard earned titles and that we can trust them. Shame on Chess.com for making a joke of this.

They come and go, so not much point in that. One of the latest exampels was discussed here: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/how-is-ludwig-a-grandmaster, but that was not a one-off.
But I don't want to blame the players. They are innocent. It is chess.com that should know better and should respect the titles and us their members.
well ludwigs title was earned in a funny way but he doesnt have a fide account making that a chess.com awarded title kinda like the lichess title of "LM"
I'm reminded of the scene from Searching for Bobby Fischer, when young Josh Waitzkin became obsessed with earning a Master certificate. His coach, Bruce Pandolfini, lost his patience and explained quite harshly:
