Feature Requests and Wishlist Thoughts #2

One more for Live Chess -- when I pick up a peice it would be great to have a visual indicator of which square it came from.  I don't always exactly play touch move in there and have "mouse slipped" a couple of times trying to drop the peice in hand back on what I erroneously thought was it's square of origin.

Maybe you could have paid tournaments(but of course the free tourneys must still be there)where the participants will send registration fee(must not be expensive so that everybody could afford it-maybe $1 - $5)and from this comes the pot money which will be given to the winner and also chess.com gets a percentage from this for operating expenses. This way there would be something at stake so more excitement and a chance to win some money.

[ERIK says: we might do something like this, but it would have to be a tournament open to computers for obvious reasons]

I don't know that I'd be interested in contributing to a pool to see if I can win the pot because my chess engine is better than everyone else's.  I understand the concern about cheating, but from my perspective I think it makes the idea a non-starter.  Not sure if there might be gambling law implications as well -- perhaps with chess being a game of skill you can skirt them, but if you're allowing computers to compete it's questionable how much skill is involved....

It would be nice to be able to preview messages to other members before sending them.  Sometimes the layout (especially linebreaks) can look a bit odd if you don't get a chance to preview it first...Smile

Two things...

First, I mentioned something about the page refreshing when a game has a move to be made (when on your home page). You said this was already done, I have yet to see my homepage refresh when a game is ready. I think you might have misinterpreted what I said, I wasn't talking about when on a game. The problem I have is when playing these tournament games I hate sitting there pressing the refresh button waiting for someone to make a move, and I don't want to sit on just one game and wait while others are waiting.

[ERIK says: if you wait on this page it will auto-refresh: http://www.chess.com/echess/myhome.html

Second, I was just playing on the LIVE chess and guess what happens, I am in a great game when all of a sudden I get D/C'd. It wasn't exactly the servers fault but my connection spiked for just a second, I knew I was D/C'd the second my internet radio got cut off for a second, and it was actually less than a second. The first thing I tried to do was type in the chat box to see if it would register, but nope I was gone... My question is, would it be possible for the server to keep a hold on me for more than a second before it disconnects me? Maybe give me 5 seconds before announcing my death? I don't like being burried alive and I am sure the whole disconnect problem alot of people complain about is pretty common to my problem. The server doesn't let you spike for one second without saying goodbye.

[ERIK says: this should be fixed in the next week! we're working really hard to get this done correctly ;)]

I would like see if there might be a way to talk with someone else (IM'S) while you are playing some one else. I have joined a study group here on your site and we are trying to find a way to discuse a game as a group while it is in progress.

Why not create a blog entry with a link to the game?

How about a dictionary of openings so people can practice different opeings, included in that would be a practice test or somethingt o test our knowladge.

Talking about games in progress is NOT permitted :)

I'd presumed, this being a study group, that both players would be in on the conversation and would have agreed to the format ahead of time.  I assumed this was akin to the computer aide rule where it's permitted only provided both have parties agreed in advance.

That would be fine provided it was an UNrated game and both players agreed.

... I want the live chess board to be reversable so that I can look at it from a diffrent prespective. Also when your in live chess bubbles come up from people asking for a game, if i declne then fine the bubble goes away but the message in the chat window stays, I would like for them both to disssapear at the same time.

You guys alreay have saved games coming so meh (live chess)

Oh and think of somthing that I havent..

In the tracked activity section I've been informed that as long as I track a friend anything and everything they've posted goes there.  This includes announcements for tournaments, meetings, etc that concluded sometime ago.  Is there not some way to limit this besides not tracking?  Items expire after xdays of no activity or whatever?

[ERIK says: if there are things that should be excluded, please let me know! we try to only make it things that are public and pertinent]

CONDITIONAL MOVES ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!
boris1

Is there another web site where I can play chess and don't have this draconian forcing of moves?  I prefer to play my own games.

boris1
Guess they didn't like my comment.

i'm still trying to find out what you mean :) what are we doing the justifies the term "draconian"? :) as far as i know, we don't force anyone to do anything on chess.com....

Boris, read this http://support.chess.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=673  to help you understand the concept of conditional moves. There is nothing forced whatsoever, you do play your own games...

ps cheers Erik

I'd like to be able to write a brief description for my archive games so i can search through them for certain openings etc.
WolF

I'd like to see a four-player chess application. Like this.

[ERIK says: ummm.... maybe in 2012 :) ]

Really enjoying conditional moves, but I have a couple of thoughts (as usual)...:

I find them a little slow -- saving the line after every move is really dragging the performance down.  Is it possible to enter each line entirely browser side (like the analysis board) and then have a button to "save" to speed the process up?

I'd really like to to be able to tell on the "My Online Chess" page which games I have entered conditional moves for -- just a quick visual indicator (such as the conditional moves icon with the Knight and the forked arrow) on the main screen would really help.

Keep up the great work guys.  This is by far the best Chess site I've ever used.
