Feature Requests and Wishlist Thoughts #2

This is probably more of a long-term thing, because it probably involves a ton of programming, but it would be nice to be able to access chess games on a mobile device. I've tried with my phone, but it just loads the board, not the pieces. Not really a big deal, just a little addition that might be nice. Like I said, long-term - I'm not familiar with how much programming it takes to create a mobile website, but I'm guessing it's a lot.
[ERIK says: yes, one day :)]

Akin to conditional moves, I'd like an option to have forced moves automatically made for me. I don't know that you'd want to automatically turn it on for everyone, but if it were made optional I would most certainly use it.
[ERIK says: to be honest, this won't happen in the next year. it is incredibly painful to program, happens in less than 5% of games, and less than 5% of people would probably use it, so we're looking at it being helpful about 0.25% of the time :)]

LIve Chess, it would be nice if your live chess ratings were displayed on either your homepage, or my stats page just so you could see where your rating is without logging into live chess.
[ERIK says: integration with Live Chess and the main site will happen after we get Live Chess out of BETA and more stable :)]

This might be a nutty request, but is it easy to program in Request for Draws and Resignations into the conditional statements? As in "if he moves there, I will move there, and if he moves there, i am dead, so I will resign". I see myself saying that a lot so I didn't know if it was easy to tack on these two options since the conditional moves have already (brilliantly!) been implemented.
[ERIK says: sure. and we'll also add in an option to have it order pizza too. just kidding. this is a good idea, but not something we can do soon.]

On your gameboard, on the "details" tab (3rd one over), there is a "flip board" checkbox - is this what you were looking for?

I play a bit of the chess on facebook, my "friends" that i play with there dont feel they have time to move over to this site to play, fools i know, either way i was curious if the stats and ratings on facebook chess, by chess.com, can some how be imported to here?

Thanks. Can't believe I missed it before.

I just noticed that you have new links set up on the chess.com page. I noticed the rules and basics link being one of the "learn" links... It made me think of when I first came to the site and was so confused about all this mumbo jumbo "?! !? +- -+ Nxc6+"
I said something before but it wasn't in a topic like this but I really think it would be great to put an explanation to these seems how people use them frequently in game analysis. Maybe it would make it easier for all the new people. I think it kinda falls under the category of basics, atleast basics for anyone wanting to study chess.
Oh and someone flooded that page with a bunch of chess positions, my screen freezes up loading all of it. The chess rules and basics page that is...
since it would cost a lot of time tracking birthdays, maybe it would be possible to have our own calendar to input birthdays of friends and other important notes. This way, one could simply click on it and not waste time viewing each friends profile profiles. It's not much but it seems helpful.
More power to chess.com

Really enjoying conditional moves, but I have a couple of thoughts (as usual)...:
I find them a little slow -- saving the line after every move is really dragging the performance down. Is it possible to enter each line entirely browser side (like the analysis board) and then have a button to "save" to speed the process up?
Been thinking more about this, and I think that integrating this with the analysis would be the best way to kill two birds with one stone. The analysis board currently works with the perforamnce I'd love to see on the conditional moves board, and the contidional moves board has the capacity for keeping variations that I've seen previously requested for the analysis board.
One of my concerns with the current setup is that users will default to using the analysis board to work out a line they're thinking of entering conditional moves for. Because it saves each move automatically, they could be part-way down a bad line before realizing it and have their opponent come in, make a move, and commit them to that line. I understand that the "correct" way to do this would be to first work out the line either on the analysis board or in your head before jumping over to the conditional moves board, but I would not be surprised to see users start using the conditional moves board as though it were the analysis board by default, exposing themselves to the risk of being forcibly committed to lines they've not fully vetted.
[ERIK says: we might in the future be able to merge these two. it is a good suggestion]

Possibility of having a filter on the current games by start date? Sad as this seems, I'd quite like this feature just to see how long games last. Interesting character, aren't I? I mean, yes live chess and yes opening explorer, but I've got a passing curiosity I'd like satisfied!
By habit, when I create a new game, I set the Game Name field to the starting date. It's not sortable, but it's something. If you look at my current game list, you'll see what I mean.
When you dig into them, all games list their starting date when you view the game; and finish dates are given in the game listing.

A raw idea:
It would be really nice to be able to just click on user names when inviting players to a tournament. Perhaps the option to choose unsernames from your "pool of opponents"
[ERIK says: i like this idea! to be able to select from friends or past opponents. good one! (added to list)]

Well I like the way on the My Chess page where you view the current games by hovering the mouse over some of the links and a chess board pops up and shows that current game.
This is also available in the My Tournament link which is great but the only thing that is bugging me is the fact that the board doesn't flip (atleast the last time I checked with Tournament viewing) when you hover the mouse over the link for viewing the game.
This ain't a problem with the My Chess as the board flips round if you are playing black or white. The last time I checked this wasn't the case for Tournament viewing when the board pops up.
I hope you know what I mean and I hope you are able to change the viewing perspective for viewing games under "Tournaments". Any questions, please ask.
[ERIK says: we'll get this fixed so that it is consistently your own side on the bottom]

When creating Open Seek games, it would be great if there was the option to not only choose the time per move in days and the opponent rating but also to set a maximum average time per move, the same way as it is possible when creating tournaments.
The coding is already in place for tournaments so perhaps it wouldn't take too much work to set it for open seek games? Would be marvelous if so because choosing a 1 day per move game and ending up with an opponent who has an average move time of 15 hours really limits the speed aspect of choosing the fastest time control. I would much rather be able to choose 1 day or 3 day for that matter, but with a limit of 3 or 4 hours average per move for an opponent. Cheers
[ERIK says: added to the list. good suggestion!]
