  • Today I played a game of chess while I was eating.I got beat but only by a little by a person who usually practicly throws me into a chess pickle. So I thought, does food help you play chess? One reason this could work is because when you eat your relaxed, or maybe the food crunching drowns out all other noise and helps you concentrate.Tell me what you think:does it help?or does it not help?Undecidedif you want to help me find out(or possibly help your game)eat while playing chess and tell me if it helps or if it worsens or if it stays the same.

Well eating does help relaxation, and relaxation helps concentration.

In a recent article I believe a survey found chocolate to be a popular choice during chess games.  This makes sense to me; chocolate is to me the pinnacle of comfort foods... maybe an indulgence like this could help improve your outlook on the game, psychology style.

Just as some foods could help you play, I'm sure there are others that can detract from your game.  Take hot curry for example - if your mouth is on fire when you're contemplating a middlegame position, you are sure to make more blunders.

Actually that would make an interesting side game... how about a spoonful of hotsauce every time you lose a minor piece?

Yes it does when you are hungry you can play chess badly and then you eat food and it helps you so much.

Yeah it make sense to me to chocolate will keep you awake and by that you will not play badly and coffee may help too, well I don't even drink coffee, but I think coffee keep you awake, that it will help you to keep atention on the game.

i don't think eating helps you play chess, it makes you consentrate on your food and not on the board, even though, if you have a lot of time to think it might make your spirit better and help you think clearly after you finish.

lol. eating gives you strength, that's how it helps.

I think eating during a chess game helps you but not too much food.  But from experience, I lost my two games at nationals after I ate dinner and it must have been the fact that I was using a good bit of energy to digest the food and wasn't getting enough energy in return as soon as I would hoped for.  Do you get what I mean?

I think if you don't eat for one month, your chess level will definitely decrease sharply! Laughing

it could and it could not help. for example. . . eating food does help you relax but also it can make you not concentrated enough on the game but more concentrated on finishing your food. So I guess at some points it could or could not help.

EATING DOES HELP ESPECIALLY CAFEIENE BECASUE IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO

INCREASE YOUR LEVEL OF AWARENESS AND THEREFORE HELPS YOUR

CONCENTRATION BLOOD TEST DONE ON CHESS PLAYERS FOR DRUGS AND OTHER

PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS HAVE SHOWN THAT CHESS PLAYERS TEND TO

HAVE HIGH LEVELS OF CAFFEINE IN THEIR BLOOD. SO DRINKING SODA AND OTHER

FOODS WITH CAFFEINE WILL DEFENITELY HELP!

When playing long games eating can help to maintain energy and concentration, but if you eat anything hard to digest it takes oxygen from your brain and you will play worse.
