Classical example.

Ok well, you said "you guys" should think about it...

The two people above that post (me and Al) both agree on the first page that other topics are worth talking about... and I'd like to think I have a non-zero amount of infamy for talking about various non-chess topics so... I have no idea how to take your posts.

As for the implied irony of a chess site banning Kasparov... well yeah, he switched to politics... to be honest the irony there is so thin I practically can't even see it.

paper_llama

But you were posting with highlights and silly videos so... I guess you're joking? Or something?

But I don't really get it, so yeah, just wondering whether you're sober... I don't think that's such an unreasonable question.

He didn't switch to politics.

Success in a sport gave him a voice to say what he want to say, and to have people listen to him.

Same thing with Muhammad Ali.

Does Ali going around talking about jabs, upper cuts, footwork, head movements?

No.

And if I walk in the rain without an umbrella I get wet.

I don't understand the nature of this conversation.

paper_llama

This is a pretty effective way for me to start feeling depressed...

Silly?

Do you listen to the lyrics?

Two worlds collide [epic already]
Rival nations [politics]
It's a primitive clash [primal, animalistic]
Venting years of frustrations [years
Bravely we hope
Against all hope
There is so much at stake

Seems our freedom's up
Against the ropes

Anything "silly" about that?

Oh ok, I can believe you're not sober (or something equivalent) so I feel better now grin.png

Yes yes, very funny / informative. I'll probably catch on to your humor/wit faster in the future.

The Soviet Union used chess to prove that they are superior.

The break-away republics wants to break away from the Soviet Union?

Why should they? In Russia's point of view, Russia is great.

Kasparov has to defeat Karpov, the Representation of the Soviet Union.

In winning, he demonstrate that the Soviet Union is not all that great.

That gave him a voice in politics, which his fight against Karpov is the representation of his fight against Russia.

He didn't "switch" to politics.

He was a professional chess player. After retiring, he wanted a way to stay in the spotlight because he's an egotist. He chose to speak out against Putin because that was the most convenient way.

He's been married 3 times, and all the stories I've heard from people who have met him describe him as various shades of intolerable.

IMO he's not a very interesting person, but he's on a very short list for GOAT chess player, with many putting his name at the top, so he has that going for him.

paper_llama

Yeah man, that was really relevant 30... f-forty?

Sh*t. Forty years ago.

Stop reminding me of my age.

paper_llama

Ok, so... I'm going to stop posting here now.

AlCzervik

Also didn't read my "conversation" with quach very carefully.

Still think the internet should be segregated by age...

There are plenty of topics for kids...

Here's one where you wont have to read very much @mropenruy. Good luck.

GlutesChess

Just post it in the off-topic and no one cares

Wait… is this a chess site? I am annoyed by people speaking for me. Like, @GlutesChess saying I don’t care. He or she doesn’t know what I care about.
