From the other side of things:
If I have house guests this week, but not next week, then I might want to draw out a couple of forcing moves this week as long as I can, because I know I'll have time next week to look at the game in detail.
So that's the downside - but the idea of having a setting does address this a little bit. I wonder if making it an opt-in feature would cause the adoption rate to be too low to justify the resources spent on implementation.
Just interested in what people think about this idea:
When a player has a forced move, meaning it is the one and only move available to them in the position, it is made for them.
This way, we don't have to wait three (or sometimes more) days to play the final move of, for example, a mating combination. After all, if there is only one move available, then there is literally no other choice for the player except to offer a draw or resign.
Perhaps it can be an account setting, where if someone wants the server to make a forced move for them, they can check a box, but if that box is not checked, then the normal time control does not apply for the forced move - instead that particular move becomes something like 8-12 hours? And instead of losing on time, the forced move is made when the time control is up.
It would help to speed things up a bit. There is no sense having to wait days for someone to play their one and only move.
