FREE Chess Coaching (Viewer Game Analysis)

I've decided to offer free chess advice for viewers who want more than just generalities such as "don't hang pieces" or "just solve tactics puzzles." Viewers can share a particular game they want me to analyze, or any particular questions they have. Share a game of yours in this thread, or just share your chess.com username if unsure about a specific game, but you want me to choose a game of yours to review for learning purposes.

Posting in this thread does not guarantee I'll choose your game, but this new video playlist will try to review a game per video and be instructional for ALL rating levels. Here's my first video for this playlist. We'll see how helpful this is for chess players wanting to learn and improve.

Here's my first video of this playlist:

Hi there! Im interested

I've got 2 games for you, you can choose one of them that seems to you more interesting and more instructive

Game 1 where I lost:

Game 2 where I could have won, but because I was low on time, I decided to accept draw:

Both are pretty interesting. I hope one of them will be in your video ❤️

I played this interesting tactical Keres Attack Sicilian game which finished about a month ago. It was the first time that I had played this opening. I was winning at one point but it became very complicated and I ended up losing.

I felt that my exchange sacrifice was great when I played it but after he accepted and created some counter-play, one of two doubts started to creep into my mind.

Im low rated. around probably 410-450. (i swing between 390 and 510, but average around 420). I imagine my games arent interesting enough to share?

AGC-Gambit_YT

ChampoftheBepoCamp

I'm only between 350-450 but I was interested in improving if you find my games boring that's fine.

In this game we did a lot of trading and I made more mistakes than usual (mainly getting forked or having to give up a piece in check) but I won on time, getting very lucky.

I'm just trying to find a small group where I can learn and have fun with people.

You don't have to put my whole game in the next video, but I was wondering If you could include a little bit of the middle or end. It is up to you either way.

My own especial weakness is "not spotting the critical moment": building up when I should strike, or striking too soon when I should still be building up. More the former than the latter. I doubt I'm alone in this. Any tips, guv?

KiyoChess13

In this game I played a brilliant move but the thing is that since then I haven't been able to find or play any brilliant moves. Can you suggest me how can I find best moves in a situation without using much time please? Thank you

Hi I would like to learn the Catalan sheerly because it looks elegant but have no idea what I'm doing. Could you either give me a list of simple ideas or direct me to some sort of 'Catalan for dummies' resource?

The Catalan is actually known for being one of the most advanced chess openings there are grin.png I say you can try any opening you want, but be aware that it will take a ton of opening theory study and building your own repertoire of keeping all the variations in mind. I play the Queen's Gambit, rather than the Catalan opening, but this is the best Catalan video I've seen (even though it's not one of my own).

Some variations involve sacrificing one or two pawns for compensation and there's lots of move order nuances to keep track of.

All rating levels are worth sharing. That's the point of this playlist idea. It's to help players of ALL rating levels and give everyone instructional chess content happy.png

I'll give this some thought and possibly make a video from this, but that's a nuanced thing to answer. The short answer is that it's mostly experience from trial and error, but there's more to it than that, so it's a possible video idea happy.png

Im a d4 and queens gambit player. I never play any other moves as white, and ive played over 3000 games with this style in various time modes. My Questions:

1. how to play against blacks fianchetto setup (be it owens defense or kings fianchetto). I find it very difficult to get a decent position when my opponent plays very passive and solid, whereas me on the other hand have no move. I can't attack too well on the king because of his solid defense, nor can i create a big fortress of my own since ive committed a lot to the centre. I pls request ur recommendation of what i should be doing in this situations.

2. Also, as a peak 1600, should i be try to learn new openings for white or just stick with what i know best (d4?)

3. I feel like something that causes a lot of losses for me, it not endgame or opening, but the middlegame. Of course, i get to endgames comparatively rarer than losing in middlegames. SO how can i get better at middlegames? I've seen many tutorials on middlegames that talk about what to focus on and etc. but since i play d4 most, What should my concerns or tactics be mostly centered around in middlegame if i play d4?

That's all the questions for now. I have way more questions but i feel like these are crucial and asking more would be disrespectful for a free coach.
