God, some people are very rude

Ok. Topic says enough. I know I can disable the comment section but I'd like to talk to other players.

I have a feature suggestion. What if we define a niceness for chess.com players. Like players who have played with each other, should have an ability to complement each other. With a binary feedback or a 1-5 star kind of feedback. Based on this we can come up with a niceness measure. Then this could be an option to restrict the player matching algorithm. Let me explains possible outcomes.

- No one likes the feature. So it'll be waste of developer time :( We can predict this with a poll or something.

- Or people start using the feature and rate their opponents. And some people use the niceness threshold option when requesting a new match. Then there are two cases:

- Either it's used by large number of people which should improve people behavior on chess.com

- Or it's only used by small fraction of people which still makes chess.com a better place for those.

This is an opinion :) I just want to know what others think. I'm here to play and have fun. Not here for revenge or anything.

its a good idea, but I don't see it implemented.

if they ever asked- I would say yes. Chess playing, is , on average, far more polite than the chess forum though.

Internet forums by definition a place for trolling. But I don't expect to see the same in games.

Another idea is to match people based on how many time they were blocked on top of other measures.

thegreat_patzer

yes... that is true.

another thing I have found.  people playing standard are far more polite (on average) than blitz players.

just another reason to play the more thoughtful (and more pleasant) G30 - than G10 or G5.

mohammadmoghimi

haha. We got one here too

wow-the first time I've ever seen a thread about this with a serious proposal! Generally It goes along the lines of the OP saying "There are nasty people" and everyone responding "just disable chat". Interesting proposal!

Just reply that -

Making you angry and emotional unstable makes me happy - or something in this category. Psyhological attack you know.

Letting him know you don't care what he says and he can't "touch you" at the same time showing you are in far above level than him will make him crazy angry.

When you grop up or experience enough trash talking you start to understand trolls are born every minute. And fighting is useless and life is much more importhan that stupid conversation with random patzer.

Or man up and fight back and crush him as kaynight suggested. Feels a lot better : ) I just can't resist sometime replying back with nasty words. Sometimes i don't and i feel sorry i did not. One time i blundered a piece and i lost and the guy started to insult me with real words, i mean what he said was true and thats hurts a lot. Not some stupid random trash words. No. I was like man that was true about my country i could not figure response fast and he left. And as you can see this is now in my memory and i should fight back ... but i failed.

Guys take a look at tryingtoplaycheckers's page. Enough said.

AIM-AceMove.

It's not about winning or losing. You win, they call you a cheater or insult you. You lose, they call you a retard. It's not about wining/losing. It's people's attitudes.

There is one special case here. It's when you borderline win multiple times in a row and that's frustrates your opponent. It's kinda ok to hear nasty words since you are expecting it.

Insults hurt no matter if you lose or win.

SpiritoftheVictory

OP, I understand your concerns. However, having a certain rating system on individual users might be something that a lot of people won't like. It will result in not-so-objective evaluation of a given user based on different value systems. Just think about it: there are people from different cultures here that express themsleves differently. Some people may interpret excessive politeness and political correctness as something fake while not seeing a big deal in a light insult or sting.

So, I say, best is not to take insults directed at you personally. Somebody may be having a bad day on the other side of the screen. Just smile and move on. No need to reply in kind either. By not taking it personally you're elevating yourself above the kindergarden level "debates" that are so prevalent here. :)

I think trolls/rude people would vote "mean" on anyone they lost to or couldn't annoy. The system would have to make "mean" people's votes less credible than "nice" or "undetermined" people.

Plus, people could still be mean, as long as they were extra nice to most people.

Another idea would be to show all recent chat remarks on ea. user's profile, so people with a pattern of rudeness would be easily spotted. Right now it's pretty easy to hide / hard to detect.

BoyStan

Some threads and some comments deserve all the trolling that they get; its their reward for being stupid, crass etc.

@mohammadmoghimi

I think you have not noticed that many are narcissists, people believing the world revolves around them and only them.
