Groups for Chess.com Translators!

Good point. I disabled the first one, since it was the one with no members.

DeepGreene

Unfortunately, it's going to take a bit longer than anticipated to get going with translations for Cebuano and Tagalog. I'll leave those Groups intact, of course - but in terms of order, they will definitely be later than the others on the list in the original post.

What? Do you need a translation? Laughing

blackfirestorm

That would help Laughing

Are you trying to prove nate23's point? Tongue out Ok, here's the translation:

"lol pig latin is fun but not that good for writing as you can probably see."

Pig latin is really only good for speaking in. It's weird and awkward when written out... Laughing

Will there be any bonus or "salary" for the translators?

I do translations on an other "well know tactics server", and I have got a free premium membership as a reward.

I suppose if there are several translator, there should be a lower limit of done work, in order to get any reward.

kodeeak

no persian

msiipola

Still no answer on my question about reward for the translators.

This is a commercial site, and why should we contribute free, without any benefits when helping doing this site better?

SusanG

I correct exercises and do translations for a language learning website, and get free membership.

Ultimately, the ability to enter or vote on translations will be open to everyone (who doesn't pick English as their site language). Then, as now, it will be on a volunteer basis only.

AKJett

no greek there???

I believe u should give a gold to the translaors, it might encourage them do buy platinum and diamond then

msiipola

Ok, I understand if everybody is allowed to make translations, you can't give gifts to everybody.

But have thought of the quality of the translations? As a Swedish speaker, I have already see some very bad translations, even if there are not so many translations done in Swedish. Lot of people are very poor at writing and speaking there native language.

Actually these bad translations disturb me so much, that I have now switched to English as my language here.

DeepGreene

Yes, for sure. In several cases, we actually pre-populated the translation tables prior to beta with Google Translate, so those are often terrible. Crowd-sourcing the translations with a point-per-vote system is obviously going to take a little time to get the translations refined; but ultimately, the best translations will rise while the worst get down-voted out of existence.

That's the theory anyway! :D

Hi everybody Smile Just a question: once the translation is "more complete", will it definitely be fixed or will it still be possible to improve it? I am just referring to the Italian one which in this moment is about 50% complete.

asonofthecircus

i am interested in translating chess.com app into japanese.

seems like current translation is a bit misleading

e.g. "live chess" is translated as "live music" in japanese.

i think i could do better than that.

the problem is, i do not know how this could be done.

Which app are you referring to? It's fine in the new android app (ライブチェス).

asonofthecircus

OK.

maybe the one i was using with my android tablet was obsolete.

ライブチェス is still a bit awkward though. (far better than ライブ演奏)

リアルタイム対戦 would better fit.

anyway, i think i could contribute something here...
