Any chance those were cheaters playing chess? I once beated a 2300 player who had a completely winning endgame and then blundered it away. It turned out he was a cheater who started playing on his own in the endgame.

Lol, I was still off by about 800. Figured it had to be high though, the endgame and opening were too clean to be 1000-ish.
