Have Staff Mods destroyed the forums?

Its truly sad that you have these Mods that dabble into everything you write. I can count in one hand who I think are good Mods and who actually get things done. When it comes to filing reports on cheating or multiple accounts they fail miserably.

I find this place more like a prisoners camp more than a Chess server. Everything you do is monitored including making Blogs making threads or suggestions etc. No wonder why membership accounts are dwindling its not fun to play on this server too many cheats, too much abuse and too many rule breakers. I suggest they bring back Yahoo Chess, at least there you could do or say anything, here it feels like a friggin concentration camp. Anyone have any good ideas where theres a better chess server?

Thank God I dont pay for a membership here, crapp server thats only getting worse. Had a account back in 2012 but things have just got out of control its not fun here, way too many BOTS abusers and multiple account users.

Precisely.  Moderation serves several important functions.  It helps prevent the forums from sinking to the level of of least common denominator; it keeps the forums somewhat focused and it acts a support for the vision of the creators and adminstrators.

People who cry censorship at every convenient opportunity seem to have little insight into the concept.

Anybody who longs for Yahoo Chess is deranged or in denial.  Other than having a feature that enabled you to create a room for a private game with someone you knew and having a nice interface, it demonstrated very explicitly how lack of rules and/or moderation could send something with great potential down into some mucky pit of obscene absurdity.

You will likely get muted for that.

The staff has only "destroyed the forums" for trolls and nincompoops.

Just follow the rules you agreed to where you signed up.  If you can't do that, just go away.

Just a note, posting comments implying a MOD edited a post is against the TOS (impersonating a moderator or staff).

We will not rest, we will not be detured. We will not falter, we will not leave one stone unturned, nor will we hessitate to find out which group or happy bastard that has destroyed our forums. And when we find them, we will string them up by their buster browns!Yell  When a thread DIES in your hands, you will know what it is to be a soldier.                                                                                                  And one more thing I want to leave you soldiers with on this 4th of July weekend.----------   God bless Chess.com. Wink

HERE MY SUGGESTION FOR THE QUESTION OF THIS THREAD:

Suggestion for staff: why not nominate some known users to be moderators?

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/suggestion-for-staff-why-not-nominate-some-known-users-to-be-moderators

In fact, I'd like the title like below, but mods delete threads if they have "TROLL"  the title:

Suggestion for staff: why not nominate some known TROLLS to be moderators?

Very good points ! After all this is a Chess site however they do allow us that one " Off Topic " forum. Needless to say they do not have to keep the " Off Topic " forum going forever. That is to say there could be a change of policy and then only forums dealing with Chess might be allowed after that point. Have fun while things here are as we have them right now   lol.

It's doubtful we'll ever do away with the Off-Topic Forum.  We want everyone to have a place to discuss topics of choice.  However, the Off-Topic Forum isn't totally without guidelines.  One of the few guidelines there is that Politics and Religion are off limits.  However, those topics can be discussed in the Open Discussion Group.

So anyone can discuss almost any issues other than weapons, illegal drugs and explicit sex somewhere on this site.  Chess.com chooses to pigeonhole where certain topics can be discussed for a variety of reasons.

I understand their reasons.

I also avoid the Open Discussion Group.

I think the problem with the forums is there aren't enough threads about chess and there are too many that are obvious attempts at trolling. The worst have been the racist threads that have been started, that the mods were quick to take down.

This is a post off another thread, I thought it was a little strange.

Is it okay?

No it's not okay, for religious purposes only it is better to stink from the head. A fish rots from the head down. A correspondent of mine has asserted that it was written in a Greek text by Erasmus, who died in 1546. That may be the case, but I've not been able to substantiate that claim.

is ok is not a question. it's confirmation
