Is this one of those visual puzzles where you need to stare at the image in a certain way?

Avatar of wanmokewan

Yes. We here in Bedrock haven't heard of this Youtubez thingy.

It's doubtful we'll ever do away with the Off-Topic Forum.  We want everyone to have a place to discuss topics of choice.  However, the Off-Topic Forum isn't totally without guidelines.  One of the few guidelines there is that Politics and Religion are off limits.  However, those topics can be discussed in the Open Discussion Group.

So anyone can discuss almost any issues other than weapons, illegal drugs and explicit sex somewhere on this site.  Chess.com chooses to pigeonhole where certain topics can be discussed for a variety of reasons.

So, for example, what are the two Threads called OUT and BREXIT about if not politics?Foot in Mouth

There have been some unclear rules in the past on what is and isn't allowed in Off-Topic, resulting in more leniency there for some things.

Oh, so they are not really off-limits? Both were started in the last 2 months!

To moderate forums properly, you need a set of rules and you need to stick to them.

The alternative is this current mess.

Based on the most stringent reading of the rules, as posted in the sticky post, they are off limits wink.png

What sites anywhere in the world gave no thought to was that organized groups with malevolent intent or else special interest propaganda would simply occupy and use the site like toilet paper. It was not the owners vision or any of that nonsense about these forums but rather a site owner is paid to have social media run amuck by itself for the most part. desire of wealth along with failing currency value is such that even if many owners suspect that this payout promotes evil, he will still take the bribe. Such persons twist in their own mind these circumstances, justify themselves, deny, ect. So don't ask for anything because owners go to great lengths to not admit this to themselves. Decadence tends to install people who really don't know this, in exactly the stations in life that we really don't want them in also.

The definite article writer.

I loosely define "an article writer" as "a writer of articles."

Soo, the indefinite article writer? Or is that just an oxymoron?

I think that is a perfectly justified criticism.  I hadn't read those threads.  I just locked them with a caveat about such discussions in the forums.

VintagePawn is also correct that there has been a lot of confusion and uncertainty concerning the Off-Topic Forum.  I'm hoping this will at least partially clarify things.

Most indefinitely.

Then perhaps rather than arbitrarily lock threads that you have not read you might take the time to ascertain the views of those who have contributed to them because your approach in the Brexit thread was draconian, you seemed intent to apply the letter of the law rather than the spirit of it , it was wholly unnecessary to lock it for it had veered off from a political discussion and your action has spoiled what was a good thread.  Surely a moderator should walk lightly on the ground not stomp up and down policing the forums.

Even if we have the right its not always necessary to insist upon it.

Yeah, I was wondering about that BREXIT thread too ever since my CNN thread got moved to open discussion.Embarassed                                                                                          " your action has spoiled what was a good thread".                              Just re-open it in open discussion robbie. Chess.com is basically asking you,--don't [Edied for language - Mod.] in the living room.Sealed

Just a question about the title.

Staff Mods? You mean there are Mods that moderate the staff? Do they get to moderate the regular mods as well? What about erik - can they moderate him? I want more info - I want to get the job!

I blocked Erik and computer 1-easy.

Your confusing the chain of command Robert. All mods moderate the forums. All staff administer the site. The mods report to David, and David reports to Erik. That's my understanding.
